First this light can handle a 100 Watt standard base incandescent bulb which is painfully rare these days. Usually the fixtures these days can handle only 60 watts if you are lucky and 40 watt limits are becoming the new normal. A 40 Watt fixture is nothing but a plaything in my bathroom since I need bright light due to my diabetes. This light have two bulbs each of which can be 100 watts offering ample light. I brought two of them so I can have one of these lights over each of two sinks in my new bathroom. The fixture is self is well built with quality steel that is NOT paper thin. The design of this light is very well thought out. The shades are thick glass not the painfully thin brittle Made in China glass junk being sold today. The metal is carefully crafted so their are no jagged unfinished edges to cut yourself on. The light installs easily with little effort. The installation of this light was so straightforward that I did not need instructions. The two bulb light is most expensive because one light is usually not enough light, the three light version is likely too overpowering for most applications. The two light version is more expensive because; it is the best seller. Hey capitalism at work.

All things considered this is a most excellent lighting fixture for a basement, man cave, bathroom, bedroom or hallway. The shades are beautiful linen glass with clear accents at the top. The glass has some weird imperfections buy just add to the unique awesome nature of the lights. The electrical wires are nice and thick. I can find no flaw with this light so it earns five stars from me. I would buy this light again in a heartbeat since their quality is a refreshing change from the junk lighting products I usually see.

Arrived promptly, and in good contition. This light fixture aways gets compliments. Good quality. Looks more expensive than it is. Was easy for my handy-person to install. Really ups the look of the living room without being demanding. Appearance goes with a broad variety of decorating styles, so you won't feel like you've made a limiting commitment. Also, the semi-flush design bounces light off the ceiling to increase brightness, overall. Can handle three (3) 100W A19 Medium Base Bulbs, incandescent bulbs, or flourescent bulbs. Easy to switch out bulbs. Works well with dimmers, but I'd buy a dimmer that is ready to handle any of these bulb types, in case you change over at some point.

I came across Ott products a few years ago and was attracted by the claim by Ott that the light spectrum produced by the bulb is the closest to natural light and therefore more healthy (and producing less eye-strain) than more common incandescent or fluorescent bulbs.

I've since purchased Ott desk lamps and use them at my office and home, and I have Ott floor lamps in both places including by the bedside for reading at night. One of the desk lamps that I own is almost identical to this model.

In my experience over this period of several years I am convinced that the Ott bulbs do produce very natural lighting for comfortable reading and I am completely satisfied with them. I have also had no problems with any of my Ott products (2 desk lamps and 3 floor lamps), either with respect to the quality of the lamps or lifespan of the bulbs. (I therefore have no experience with Ott customer support because I have not had reason to make use of it).

(A comment regarding their customer support based upon my reading of other customer reviews here on Amazon. I have noticed that Ott customer support has individually responded via "comments" to many if not all of the negative customer reviews posted to their products here on Amazon, asking that the persons who have had a bad experience contact Ott so that their problems could be corrected. That is something that I have not noticed with other products and suggests to me that they are really paying attention to customer feedback and want to provide good customer support. Based on that I would expect problems to be handled by them in a very good way. It would be helpful if other Amazon customers who have initially had a bad experiences, but subsequently contacted Ott as the company has suggested, could provide an update to their reviews so that others can see how the issues were handled and hopefully resolved).

The only downside to these products as far as I am concerned is that the bulbs and lamps are made to fit each other and you therefore need to purchase replacement Ott bulbs, which of course are not cheap. I would not use them for every light in the house for that reason, but for those lamps that are primarily for reading, they are my preference.

I have found it difficult to quantitatively compare the Ott products to other lamps that make similar claims (Verilux being perhaps the main example). I have been unable to satisfy myself as to whether or not Ott is superior or even different from these others, and I do not have personal experience with any of the competitors to Ott. I do know that when I went to the Ott website to see what information was available on the light spectrum of the light produced by the bulbs, so that I could attempt to make a comparison of the light quality for the Ott bulbs vs their competitors, I could not find that information available from them (yes, I am an engineer). I also did not find such information on the Verilux website. If I am able to come across such a comparison, I will update this review to include it.

Very good lamps for reading use and I feel very comfortable in recommending them.

It's a pretty nice ceiling fan, one of the easier ones I've installed. But, this is another fan where they went with the candelabra-base bulbs, so I took off 1 star. You can see on the box where they swapped out "standard base" for "candelabra base", because the box is lighter there (almost like a sticker put over the original text, but it's actually printed). The image, here and on the box, show what appear to be standard base bulbs. At the time of this review, Amazon's product description does not include the type of bulb used, just that it's a max 60 watt.

This fan is wonderful. You will pay at least double in any local home store and the quality cannot be beat. If you are handy install it yourself, it went up in 30 minutes and is super quiet at night. I purchased two of these fans to go into two bedrooms. The fan has 3 speeds (high, medium and low) with the traditional pull chain. I was surprised at how much air the fan circulates on each speed (especially when on high). The fan comes with an optional light fixture attachment. There will be plenty of light to illuminate a room with the three 60W bulbs that are included. The fan is extremely quiet despite its high air output. If you are placing this fan in a bedroom, I recommend mounting it in the low profile manner to provide more clearance. Mounting it this way will give a clearance of about 13 inches from the ceiling. If you prefer the other option, the ceiling fan has a 17.5 inch drop inclusive of the light fixtures and ceiling mount extender as pictured above. At only $84, this fan is a bargain. I did research for about three weeks before purchasing this particular model. Similar 52 inch fans were going between $110 $199. You cant get a better fan at this price.

The title says it all. We have had the fan for a few weeks now, and it seems to be working out very nicely. Quiet, good looking and makes nice air flow. We had it installed by a professional, but he seemed to have no problems installing the unit.

The point another reviewer made about candelabra style bulbs is well taken. Be prepared to keep special bulbs on hand for the light.

Looks wonderful in our craftsman-style house. I agree with the reviewer who said it is best with a chain added. Pain in the butt to pry open the links and weave the cord through the chain (12-inch white chain purchased from a home center), but well worth the effort. Hung it from a white plant bracket suspended between two kitchen windows and used cord cover to hide the cord running across the top of the window frame and down the other side. Everyone who sees it admires it.

It's sturdy, the paper shade is well made and really lovely. The wire cord was kind of hokey so I covered it with white satin blanket binding that I stitched up, sliding it on like a scrunchy. It looks great. It hangs above my desk in my alternative healing office and I've received lots of compliments on it. Great price, great product.

A review above states that the lights are cracker box quality. They are a bit thin but they are built for wet conditions and I do not see anything that would suggest they wouldn't hold up. I have seen them used in other locations (outdoors) here where I live and they look like they are holding up to weather conditions. I think they look very nice on my home and it is easy to re-install light bulbs when needed as well. Not sure about using them in the house though, they are made for the outdoors.

This fixture was metal, not plastic, and seems solid enough. Unlike in the picture, however, there is no glass over the light bulb. Just be aware that your light bulb is exposed to the elements (although covered with a very large shade). Since a lot of the newer bulbs say you shouldn't put them in an enclosed fixture, this probably fits the bill.

We bought this type of fans more than 2 years ago from OSH. We like the look, the cost and how it works (very quiet and stable, also flush mountable). you get the best bang of your money. A month ago, we bought another one from Amazon.com. In the product description it states using "standard-base light bulbs". After opening the package, we found that it uses candelabra based light bulbs. For this, we returned it to Amazon.com because we'd like to use more generic products for easy light bulb replacement.

After talking to several sales persons and electricians at local Home Depot stores, I found all new ceiling fans have changed light bulbs to either candelabra base or Intermediate base (or E-17 Intermediate) in recent years in order to bypass an energy saving requirement imposed on Standard Medium Base light bulbs. At this time, there is no specific energy-saving requirement on the candelabra or Intermediate base light bulbs. The downside of using none-standard type bulbs is that you are locked in to buy them from limited number of dealers. It can be hard to find replacement bulbs.

it's extremely light, great for low ceilings and/or apartments and spins quietly but with strength! my boyfriend [who is a contractor] installed it, but said it was very easy to hook up and to make flush with the ceiling, avoiding almost any shakiness! it does feel somewhat flimsy so i'll update this review after a year or so, but after nonstop high spinning during 3 steamy hot nyc summer months, i love this thing! for $50 and amazon's free shipping, YOU CANNOT BEAT IT

still running the fan basically day and night, reversing the direction in the winter to blow upward and using the light function for at least a couple of hours/day and it is working smoothly and consistently, with no shakiness or loss of strength. the wood panels haven't faded, the brass hasn't tarnished, and i am hardly as consistent about keeping it clean as i am about keeping it on! one of the best home purchases i've made.
