These are really attractive, good quality lamps for the price. I bought two of them, and they look great in my living room. The lamp has a sturdy footprint and a stable center of gravity, which is a must with my 5 kids constantly rough-housing...less likely to topple if it gets bumped. The color is more of a dark brown than bronze as described, but that's not a bad thing. The lamp shades are lined, not cheap looking at all. And the lamps came packed with a nice little compact energy efficient 60-watt bulb. I'm happy with this purchase.

I really love the style of the lamp. It has a oriental flavor to it, but you could put it with any style and be happy. The size is small, but I usually put books or something under a lamp to increase in height. I don't see much silver on it, but the bronze is a beautiful color.

Get this straight......this is NOT a high end lamp. It has generic looks and isn't made out of the best materials. But at the end of the day, it's still a pretty good buy. Similar lamps in retail chain stores cost a considerable amount more. If you are looking for something that looks expensive, this lamp isn't for you. But if you want something that is practical, you've found the right lamp. Given the chance, I'd buy it all over again. Good buy.

Very nice item. I ordered the Yantouch Jellyfish with two other items, the Phillips Living Colors 2 and the Lzr Sphere Light Projector from Unique Gagets & Toys. The Jellyfish is my favorite of the three. The colors are great, and very adjustable. There is saturation and hue gradients which allow the Jellyfish to be set to an astounding variety of colors and brightness. The flow setting moves the colors through the spectrum in a preset configuration that reminds me of a color wheel. Finally there is a preset which includes several colors at one time, a sort of rainbow. The Jellyfish is not bright enough to read by, nor can it be clearly seen by daylight. It does not cast light into a room, or onto the ceiling. It is made of sturdy plastic which allows the cool temperature LED style lights inside to cast their glow onto the shell that encases them, creating a mellow and attractive color scheme to be seen. The weakness of this item is its touchpad the interface between the user and the results. Either mine is problematic or the method is. My impression is the design is weak, not my specific item. It is supposed to respond to touch commands, the point touched determining the color result, the duration of the contact and direction of the movement are supposed to effect changes in the saturation of the color, and the type of results you get are responsive to this input. In reality it strikes me as fidgety and more random in outcome it is determined by these input commands. Nevertheless this is a great little night light. If I had kids I would give it to them, since I don't I get to keep it.

I got this light as a christmas gift and I love it! I can't stand being in a pitch black room so I usually leave a small night light plugged in. But most of the time they are just too bright [I have a very small room, so it doesn't take much to light up my room]! With this light I can pick any color in any hue, light or dark. You are able to pick a color and either turn the brightness up or down which makes this great! Anyone looking for a reading lamp should not buy this, why would you want a colored light to read with anyway? I love that I can pick a different color to fit my mood. The only thing I don't like is the changing rainbow effect, it isn't very pleasant.

i bought this feeling confident it would be great. massive disappointment.

to begin, the light is far too dim. it is designed to be pointed at a surface and the surface helps to increase the strength of the light in the room/area. i can't see how this is useful for anything, also i find the colors and rainbow mode ugly. it's still too dark to be useful you will need another light source if you plan to do anything (like reading which is impossible using only this light).

the worst part is, when it is in rainbow mode (fades in and out through the colors) i actually find this really annoying and distracting. it's just not at all pleasant having the colors changing constantly.

the advertising says that it can show millions of colors, which i don't believe. when you scroll through the colors and choose one, it isn't the same tone and hue to the color that you selected. probably the most disappointing thing about this. it doesn't feel like it has a lot of colors. i do graphic design, studied art, am good at creating colors using just red, blue, green paints. i'm sure that this thing doesn't have as many tones of color as advertised.

i'm not sure what to do with this unit now, is it worth the effort to have one of my walls being cycled through a few neon colors? no.

i wanted this as a pretty low light reading lamp and yesterday bought an Artemide tolomeo a color that i'll enjoy.

the pricing is too high for this which has no practical use.

Was looking for something sleek and stylish, but not too trendy for a second bathroom. This fixture is perfect. Directions are easy to follow and the fixture easy to install. One issue we had is that the lightbulbs that accompanies the fixture were broken upon delivery, even thought they were wrapped in bubble wrap and placed inside the globes (note that the globes were intact). The other issue is that the finish on the edge of one of the globes is slightly uneven. We will just turn that part to the wall side of the fixture. We have it facing down and it looks wonderful. Gives off nice light.

A review above states that the lights are cracker box quality. They are a bit thin but they are built for wet conditions and I do not see anything that would suggest they wouldn't hold up. I have seen them used in other locations (outdoors) here where I live and they look like they are holding up to weather conditions. I think they look very nice on my home and it is easy to re-install light bulbs when needed as well. Not sure about using them in the house though, they are made for the outdoors.

This fixture was metal, not plastic, and seems solid enough. Unlike in the picture, however, there is no glass over the light bulb. Just be aware that your light bulb is exposed to the elements (although covered with a very large shade). Since a lot of the newer bulbs say you shouldn't put them in an enclosed fixture, this probably fits the bill.

This is a heavy-duty, high quality piece of equipment for a rock bottom price. The floor base is very heavy. It consists of two separate square bars with wheels on either end, joined together in an "X" and held together by a steel bolt and washer. The bolt screws into a pole, where the lamp arm is inserted. The only parts that will need to be (eventually) replaced are a fuse and the lamp itself. The only tool you may need to put this together is a wrench for the bolt. I also recommend buying "3M Compressed Air Dust Remover" to clean the lens. This will allow you to avoid scratching the lens unnecessarily, as well as avoid lint buildup. If you do clean the lens with a cloth, make sure it is lint-free.

The swing arm lamp/magnifier will stay where you put it. It is not going to move. Period. This is not a plastic piece of junk from a box-mart store. This equipment will last for years. I ordered it to do cross-stitching. I could not be happier. I wish I ordered it sooner. And Grizzly ships very quickly. It got here much sooner then expected. Be warned: The box is very heavy, and may take two people to lift. (If you do not want a floor model, take a look at their table model with a heavy base).

Description of the lamp

The base is folded sheet metal tube with metal bars in it to give it weight(Total weight of the lamp is 24lbs.) The plastic end caps all fell off during shipping and would only stay on with glue. The wheels are 100%plastic. The base is tube metal and at the top of the base is a plastic bushing. The tube is secured to the base with a bolt and washer. I used threadlock on the bolt because it WILL work loose if you do not. The top section (the metal box that the power cord comes out of and up) slides into the plastic bushing. The bushing is the weak point to the whole unit. The bushing is too short and the hole is too big so the top tilts to one side slightly (1-2"). A concern of mine is if you were holding it by the top section and lifted up accidently, you could lift the top section out of the bushing and then the heavy lens section makes it top heavy and you could loose your grip on it. The lens focus range is 6" to 12". The lamp provide good even lighting.

Pros:

1. It is stable even with the lamp extended out.

2. Good even light on subject.

3. Able to adjust to most angles.

Neegatives:

1. Another made in China lamp.

2. The top section can come out of the base. needs a retaining clip!

3. The bushing is poorly made. I will be making a new one on my lathe!

Summary: You get what you pay for. for the price, it is acceptable. I will be using this in my shop and moving it around daily so I am going to modify the bushing. If you are going to set this up and not move the base around a lot the you should not have any problem with the bushing. Overall I am pleased with it and with a minor bushing modification, it should last a long time.

Best Deals for Grizzly H3109 Roll-Away Round Magnifying Lamp

The world needs good, affordable magnifier lamps. If you want great, you buy Luxo and pay $540 for a roll-away with superb optics and industrial-grade hardware that should last 50 years. If you can't afford Luxo, the various Grizzly models can fill the bill, but they won't last very long. I'm hard pressed to get one to last more than 18 months with lots of daily use.

I bought these for an elderly relative with vision problems, ultimately buying this model, the 3106 roll-away and the 3105 desk mount models.

Pros:

Price Compared to real Luxo industrial magnifiers, these are nearly free!

Optics quality NOT SUPERB, but pretty good for most uses.

Cons:

Durability Hardware is all too cheap and fails, fails, fails. I've spent too much time fixing bad hardware and poorly manufactured threads, tensioners and other components.

Mfr Support You're on your own for fixes and replacement hardware. For tensioning components, there is nothing to be done just throw the lamp away when the tensioners fail.

If you do buy these, you can add mass (stability) by sliding a short stack of 4 each of 5-lb weightlifting plates (1-inch standard plates) over the base pole to keep the system from tilting over.

I've now given up on these a bought a Luxo instead, justifying it on the grounds that I'm tired of adjusting things that will not hold position, fixing monthly component failures and corrrecting bad manufacturing work. Sure, I'm in the hole by $430 more than the Grizzly, but that saves me an hour a month in fixit work and spares the elderly relative from frustration and disruption.

Also, the Luxo has a 5-year warranty and can be expected to last for many decades.

I'm glad they have this available. I sew and when I sew I need to see clearly. This helps a lot!

Also, I collect charms when I travel. Trying to put the charms on a bracelet or necklace, you need to see up close and make sure you get the charm exactly where it has to go.

This product is excellent! I do a lot of projects where I need light, a magnifier, and something close.

I can even sit comfortably on the bed and do my work!

the lamp could not be assembled. the rod that hold the lamp was not threaded so it could not be screwed in...the end caps fell off the stand..this product appeared to be previously used. i had to buy another lamp in the meantime. to date i have not received a credit on my account for defective merchandise
