Was looking for something economical to opererate and get away from the round flourescent tubes and starters. So we purchased one of these lights and put 3 13 watt instant on bulbs that each one equal a 60 watt bulb. Gives us plenty of light in one half of the kitchen, so we purchased another one for the other end of the kitchen. Love them. We have more light than we did with the other light fixtures. I would reccomend this light for someone who wants to light up a bigger area, with some control over the light direction. The seller was quite prompt on delivery.

I needed a light fixture for the kitchen to upgrade the old one since we upgraded the rest of our kitchen in this 1956 home. My dilemma was that the old fixture had two light bulbs hidden inside a frosted glass and didn't throw sufficient light in the kitchen. When you were working at the kitchen counters, you were creating your own shadows on your work which was annoying, especially on cloudy days or in the evenings when it was dark outside.

I selected this light fixture for the three light fixtures with exposed bulb areas to throw light to the areas in my kitchen that needed it. I love the silver finish and the marbled frosted glass. My kitchen has white upper walls with light pine on the lower portion of the walls and pine flooring and white cabinets and when you turn this light on now at night, the entire kitchen area where my countertops are located is now very well light up. The light bounces off the white and it makes for a very nice work area when you are cooking or cleaning in the kitchen.

Not mentioned in the description of the light is whether it will take fluorescent light bulbs which are the only kind of light bulbs we use in our home, we are very energy conscious and try to keep all our utility bills down as low as we can. I emailed the seller and got this response back:

"This fixture uses (3) 60 Watt Medium Based Bulbs. That means they are the regular incandescent bulbs. You can use CFL bulbs, as long as they have a medium base and are not any longer than the incandescent bulbs. Let us know if you have any further questions." I thanked her for the response and suggested they upgrade the descriptions to show that their fixture will take fluorescents and then ordered this fixture. Many homes (at least I hope) have switched over to fluorescent light bulbs and would need this information before ordering.

I now do not have to add additional lighting to light up areas in the kitchen (like under cabinet lights, over the stove lights, etc.). This worked out perfectly. My husband installed it (that man can do anything) and installation was easy. So, yes, I am very pleased with this light fixture and would recommend it.

I have carried a Streamlight SL-20 for 20 years as a metro police officer. A year ago, it finally came time to upgrade from incandescent to LED since the "little" LED light I carry was actually brighter than my "big" incandescent flashlight. The difference is literally night and day, the LED is probably 60% brighter than my incandescent light was when it was new. I have literally used the aluminum version in the line of duty as a pry bar, battering ram and all other things that would make the warranty department cringe.

I was so happy with the new LED that I also purchased the polymer version (this one) as a gift for mom to use around the farm. The polymer one does just fine for her needs and is lighter for her to carry as she frequently also is carrying something else to, from or around the barn while she has the flashlight to see where she is going or what she is doing. Mom is thrilled with the flashlight and uses it daily, it is bright enough to shine from her house to the barn (about 200 yards) and still see something there.

The advantage (or drawback, depending on how you look at it) of the LED light is that it doesn't dim out, when the battery is done the light just cuts off. Recharge time is fairly quick and the new style charger cuts off when the flashlight is charged.

If I had a need for a couple more of them I'd probably have half a dozen of the LED versions laying around the house.

This pendant is quite large at 20'' and is ideally suited to the vaulted ceiling in my room.(It comes with enough rod segments to suit almost any height of ceiling). I wanted a clean modern look and one that would not be a dust collector. This gives a nice bright warm glow with a 43 watt CFL bulb or could use up to a 150 watt conventional bulb. The bulb is high enough within the shade that there is no glare for those seated nearby. The fact that the shade is open at the bottom will make it easier to change bulbs when that becomes necessary. An excellent choice for a contemporary style room.

But here are some things you need to know.......

1. You can't use compact florescent bulbs (CFB)...period!

2. The dusk accent lighting displays an elegant effect, but not much illumination. The lamps will brighten up when motion is detected; but otherwise, accent lighting is what you can expect.

3. The operation instructions are not user friendly. You may have to phone Heath/Zenith technical service for further explanation, once the lamps are installed.

In sum, we are most pleased with the lamps, given the price paid. They're durably constructed, attractive, and are a handsome addition to our home's main entrance, patio, and garage door lighting. My reason for not giving 5 stars: we could not use CFBs. I had not known this prior to phoning Heath/Zenith to inquire as to why the CFBs (that I installed initially) were not functioning properly in the lamps. I was informed that continued attempts to use CFBs could permanently damage the fixtures.

I like the look of these coach lights. The install was painful, but that's really because of where they are on my house makes it difficult to reach the necessary areas. The instructions and process were easy to follow, just difficult to execute due to access issues.

The operation of these in tandem is the problem I am having. Since the lights are paired in front of my house and connected to the same switch, the motion sensing operation of one affects the other. I can't have both lights in motion sensing mode at the same time because one is trying to turn the switch on while the other is trying to switch off, so the one light controlled by the other is making it rapidly flicker. So, if you want a strobe light effect in front of your house, go for that setup.

The sensitivity setting is on the back side of the base, so once you have these screwed in, you can't adjust the sensitivity without removing two screws to pull it off. Not a big issue if you haven't already caulked around the edges and don't want to have to go through that again. Make sure you test your sensitivity setting because even at 50%, mine are sensing cars going by on the road 25 to 30 feet away which really isn't what I wanted.

Again, I like these, but they do require some adjustments to make work. If you don't have two working off the same switch, these should work perfectly with no additional help from an electrician.

These lights installed easily and are quite bright (but not so bright as to be distracting or obnoxious). Some things to note:

1. Make sure you pay attention to the dimensions of the mounting plate. In order to properly mount to siding, you will need the standard siding mount, as well as the larger 'mega' mounting plate. I got these at Home Depot for around $40 for all four plates. You could probably install directly on your siding, but then you risk water damage and the lights not holding, depending on your building construction.

2. Make sure to let the lights charge for at least 2 full days in the 'off' position, in order to get a full charge on the batteries.

I wish I could post a picture of the installed product they look fabulous, and I love that they are solar powered. I would buy these again.

We looked high and low for black lights we could use on either side of our garage door. Most of them were too ornate, or too cheezy looking. These were PERFECT...exactly what we wanted. They are solid, well built, and just gorgeous (we couldn't stop staring at them and couldn't wait to put them up). We had a few doubts about the whole solar thing, but based on the few reviews we found we thought everything would be ok. We charged them (with all 4 solar panels exposed) in blazing bright sun in the off position for a few days before actually mounting, as suggested. However, they just were not bright and we knew it wouldn't get any better because the position of the lights wouldn't allow all 4 panels to be exposed to direct sunlight at any one time. So regrettably we needed to send these back. My suggestion would be to give it a shot if you will have the lights where all 4 panels would always be exposed to the sky during the day...but otherwise solar technology may not be for you. We ended up finding some non-solar dusk to dawn lights that do the trick and are nice looking (though admittedly not as gorgeous as these). Gamasonic you would probably make lots of money if you made these in non-solar (electric) dusk to dawn form for the people who can't use solar.

I installed this outside the back door of rental duplex where there is no electrical supply available and nighttime light is needed. It is not in full sunlight, but faces south and gets a few hours each day. It comes on automatically when it gets dark, and the brightness and length of time it stays lit depends on how much charge it gets from sunlight during the day. This is in the desert southwest, where we have very few cloudy days. I put it in the best location I was able to attach it. Because it's not in full sun all day it is not as bright as an electric powered light would be, but it isn't the fault of the lamp. It works as it is designed to. Installation was simple two screws. I attached it to a 2x4 on a shed wall. I don't have the skills to attach it to concert stucco, or I would have put it in a sunnier location. But it works satisfactorily.

it won't work in every location you might want to put it. I like that the on/off switch is located inside the lamp and that you have to unscrew the top to turn it off. I think that is a good security feature.

I would buy another one, and may do so when the technology gets a little cheaper. Great quality of construction.

At 27" tall, this is one huge Lava lamp... and that's its appeal. They're great in an entertainment room the slow, smooth lava flow in one of these big lamps is nicely relaxing, and their soft blue-green glow allows you to see your surroundings without distracting from what's on the screen.

I love the things... but be aware that they take a while to warm up. The lava can take two or three hours to get fully flowing in these big lamps. Also, it takes several thermal cycles for a new lamp to really get flowing. The first time I turned them on one of my lamps still hadn't bubbled after six hours. I turned it off, let it cool down completely (3+ hours), and turned it on again; within a few hours it was working properly and flows nicely now.

Okay, at this point you have a five and a one star review. I was about to send mine back too after EIGHT HOURS waiting for this thing to work. Here is what you must do: Make sure the little spring wire loop is sitting in the very bottom of the bottle. You can turn and tip the bottle until it sits in the very bottom. Then, make sure the light bulb is centered. If it's not, remove the bulb and bend the light base until centered then replace the bulb. Next, run this beast for a good six hours then, turn it off and let it sit overnight! This will cause the wax to settle down after shipping. It will now work but it will still be different than other Lava lamps as described in the positive review below. After all these years in the business you would think Lava Co. would include better instructions and a description of this lamp's action (it does not look like the picture here, it's more like a storm on Jupiter). I guess they are old stoners over at Lava!

I purchased this a few days ago. Amazon is great to work with and are fantastic about a good customer experience, sadly Lava Lite of America is NOT. I've ordered several lights from Amazon, and typically they were cloudy when I opened the package. The packing slip will state this is normal and the lamps clear up (this is called "cycling the lamp", the idea is the water heats up and absorbs the material clouding the water). I can tell you it never clears up.

Lava Lite licenses the patent on the technology from the original company in Great Britain called Mathmos. Lava Lite stopped production of their lights in 2004, and exported all the manufacturing to China, where aparently production quality is pretty low. Supposedly steps have been taken to change that, but how would you know the lamps you buy are the newer ones? I took a chance on this lamp and it arrived with cloudy water :-(.

There are forums online that talk about kits and or waiting nine months, but I can't settle for inferior products like this. So I will be returning this to Amazon. Unfortunately Mathmos doesn't make a large lamp like this, so I won't be able to get this exactly. But I understand Mathmos still makes every lamp by hand and I think there is a video on their website.

Again, this is NOT Amazon's fault. It's Lava Lite of USA poor quality.

I have lots of lava lamps because I'm an old hippie. This one came last week and I've got to say it's the best ever. I don't know whether it's just a difference in fluid dynamics in a larger lamp, but it does things none of my other lava lamps do. It's not just lumps floating around, it's more like a weird changing diorama. Stuff appears, turns into amazing shapes, and disappears. It's also very mysterious looking. It's hard to describe. It's just deeper than the other ones, with a lot more changes happening. I don't stare at my other lava lamps much, but this one keeps drawing my attention. It's also HUGE! Knowing it was 29 inches didn't prepare me for seeing the actual item. It is tremendous. I love this lamp and want more (but the other variations are always sold out). By the way, the lava changes color from yellow to orange to red, all against the purple background. Amazing.

Even for the cheap price it is just ok. I should have paid just a little more for a nicer one. It looks and feels cheap, but does match the design of my other outdoor lights and it is already hung up, so I will keep it. Hoping it breaks soon so I can buy a nicer one!

I need to qualify my review. I bought two of these listed as "Used-Good." I received one and installed it. The other is still in transit. I'll review it separately if necessary. I knew I was taking a chance, but the price was only $13.46 each, shipping included. How could I go wrong? My existing porch lamps were old and showing that rust that comes through brass plating. This unit is described as "solid brass." It says so on the lamp on a tag attached. Another tag indicates a "Lifetime Warranty" on electrical parts only, not on the finish. This lamp looks new! I can't find a mark on it. Two small brass cap nuts were not included. These nuts are used to fasten the entire lamp to the wall mounting. I bought some plated ones at Lowes. I flipped the switch and on came my new great looking porch lamp. What a deal! I hope I can say it again when my other lamp arrives.

Update: The second lamp came in without any damage and it had a hardware pack for installation. The pack included brass cap nuts.

Originally I ordered 2 of these lights. They arrived in an Amazon box with the original product packaging inside. These units are made in China, and the original packaging looks like its been through a war. The packaging is also very flimsy, and in my opinion for a delicate item like this is totally inadequate.

Amazon promptly replaced the damaged unit, and I received another that is damaged even worse that the previous one.

So I am returning both units today for a refund. In my opinion, Amazon should drop Quoizel as a vendor and stop taking any orders as long as they keep sending inadequate and severely damaged packaging and product.

I have hundreds of previous orders with Amazon and this is by far the worst product packaging issue I have had. Amazon has been very prompt and courteous with the returns, but overall I think they would do better to weed out vendors of this quality.

I'm going back to Amazon to search for new lights, but definely not from Quoizel.
