We purchased this light to replace a wall light over a small desk in our kitchen. It looks great with the rest of the torino collection we have through the kitchen/dining area and I plan to purchase them for our bathrooms and a hallway!

The installation wasn't as easy as other bathroom lights we have purchased, but I think this had more to do with the box in our wall. We ended up having to purchase different screws to make it work, maybe a better option would be for this light to come with multiple lengths of screws.

We also loved the versatility of this light. As I stated, we purchased it for a desk area, it is a great bathroom light, we have a hallway we plan on purchasing one for (maybe the 3 light version) and you can place this light up or down facing!

Ten years ago if I bought something this cheaply made I'd give it one star, but I guess we're all getting used to the manufacturing paradigm that you want to make something as cheaply as possible but still work.

On the down side sheet metal work is poor. Holder for the 'cloud' is a strap bent around outside of the box not straight or flat consequently I was not able to mount it so box flush against ceiling, and it shows. (OK probably could if I took the fixture down, drilled 2 screens into the box near the end that shows, 2 into ceiling and sunk plaster anchors into the ceiling, pulling it very tight against ceiling on the end.) The holders for the sockets clip loosely into sheet metal straps you have to wiggle them to get bulbs in not sure it's safe to change bulbs with power on. Instructions include instructions for replacing the ballasts either they are being thoughtful or do not expect them to last. Instructions warn you that 'cloud' breaks easily. I believe it that was true of the fixture this replaced and it was the reason I replaced it.

On the plus side the T8 bulbs light instantly and that's nice. Very bright. Very nice lighting and looks good if you don't look too close and notice the fixture is pushed out 1/8" from the ceiling on the one corner. (I doubt too many people would look close.)

I liked that the shades looked creamy white, not yellowish-orange or bright white like so many other vanity lights. However, when I first installed the light bulbs that came from my old fixture (clear 40W bulbs), it completely changed the look of the shades and they looked very yellowish-orange. I was a little panicked at first, but then I simply replaced the bulbs with 60W soft white bulbs and got the creamy white look I was looking for. It calls for three 100W bulbs, but since we installed this fixture with the lights facing down over the mirror/sink (rather than up toward the ceiling), 100W bulbs were WAY too bright. Since there is only one view of this light provided, I was unaware of the detail on the lamp and will post a picture showing somewhat of a side view so others can see the detail where the shades attach to the base. I was a little unsure, seeing that no one had reviewed the light yet, but we are happy we took the chance and ordered this light fixture.

On a side note, this vanity light was shipped from Wayfair. We initially received the wrong light fixture, but Wayfair was quick in responding to my email and sent out the correct fixture immediately. They arranged for FedEx to come to my house to pick up the first fixture and I didn't even have to print a mailing label or anything...very easy exchange process.

Install was simple enough. First ceiling fan I have ever installed and everything went smoothly. Followed the included directions, easy enough. Great addition to my room. Also installed a wireless remote with thermostat control with the fan (Westinghouse 7787400 Thermostat Ceiling Fan and Light Remote Control for Fans, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N1DM9M/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00) and works perfectly. I think this combo will save me money on heating / cooling, probably pay for itself in a few years.

I purchased this fan because my ceilings are a bit low. If I would have purchased the one with a short pole I would be too afraid to walk through my living room while it was one. My handyman who is quite experienced putting up ceiling fans installed this one for me. Although it hugs close to the ceiling, there is a tiny gap between the ceiling and the base. It's super quiet on every speed. I ran it for a substantial amount of time and it felt quite pleasant.

I also purchased a remote control unit with this because running into fan strings in the middle of the living room is kind of played out. My handyman installed the unit next to my light switch on the wall and now I'm good to go. Thus far, no issues. I highly recommend this fan because it's economical, it's perfect for low ceilings, the remote control works perfectly with this and it's super quiet. When you're watching a movie, you don't want to hear your fan blades. You won't go wrong with this one.

(I will update this review if I run into any problems).

We mounted this antique bronze light with the shades down and it works very well over the oval mirror in our small remodeled bathroom. The tea stained shades are lovely. These lights installed easily and are quite bright (but not so bright as to be distracting or obnoxious). Some things to note:

1. Make sure you pay attention to the dimensions of the mounting plate. In order to properly mount to siding, you will need the standard siding mount, as well as the larger 'mega' mounting plate. I got these at Home Depot for around $40 for all four plates. You could probably install directly on your siding, but then you risk water damage and the lights not holding, depending on your building construction.

2. Make sure to let the lights charge for at least 2 full days in the 'off' position, in order to get a full charge on the batteries.

I wish I could post a picture of the installed product they look fabulous, and I love that they are solar powered. I would buy these again.

We looked high and low for black lights we could use on either side of our garage door. Most of them were too ornate, or too cheezy looking. These were PERFECT...exactly what we wanted. They are solid, well built, and just gorgeous (we couldn't stop staring at them and couldn't wait to put them up). We had a few doubts about the whole solar thing, but based on the few reviews we found we thought everything would be ok. We charged them (with all 4 solar panels exposed) in blazing bright sun in the off position for a few days before actually mounting, as suggested. However, they just were not bright and we knew it wouldn't get any better because the position of the lights wouldn't allow all 4 panels to be exposed to direct sunlight at any one time. So regrettably we needed to send these back. My suggestion would be to give it a shot if you will have the lights where all 4 panels would always be exposed to the sky during the day...but otherwise solar technology may not be for you. We ended up finding some non-solar dusk to dawn lights that do the trick and are nice looking (though admittedly not as gorgeous as these). Gamasonic you would probably make lots of money if you made these in non-solar (electric) dusk to dawn form for the people who can't use solar.

I installed this outside the back door of rental duplex where there is no electrical supply available and nighttime light is needed. It is not in full sunlight, but faces south and gets a few hours each day. It comes on automatically when it gets dark, and the brightness and length of time it stays lit depends on how much charge it gets from sunlight during the day. This is in the desert southwest, where we have very few cloudy days. I put it in the best location I was able to attach it. Because it's not in full sun all day it is not as bright as an electric powered light would be, but it isn't the fault of the lamp. It works as it is designed to. Installation was simple two screws. I attached it to a 2x4 on a shed wall. I don't have the skills to attach it to concert stucco, or I would have put it in a sunnier location. But it works satisfactorily.

it won't work in every location you might want to put it. I like that the on/off switch is located inside the lamp and that you have to unscrew the top to turn it off. I think that is a good security feature.

I would buy another one, and may do so when the technology gets a little cheaper. Great quality of construction.

We live in Arizona and have just relandscaped our front and back yards. I have purchased a variety of solar lights. First I will say that when you use solar, especially to spot areas, you should plan to use double the lights you would normally use. That being said the Smith Hawkin lights are by far the brightest, longest lasting, most white lights. They will hold a charge from dark (7 pm) until 4 in the morning. We are very happy with these products. I have both the spots and the rock lights. They are well made and durable. They are not plastic like many of the other brands.

I wanted to keep my Flag out all night, but didn't have the $$ and time to hard-wire some spots for proper illumination. After a quick search on Amazon, found these and decided to give them a try. Can't really complain, but to call them a "spot" light is being generous. These put out no more illumination than a cheap LED flashlight. The fact that you're running two lights off of just two AA rechargeable batteries also means you don't get many hours of light. They fade to black after about six hours; not enough to keep my Flag out the entire night. However, I like the sturdy construction of the material. These puppies were made to last! The solar panel itself is only plastic, so you need place it somewhere out of the way. And it doesn't take much light to recharge the system; even on cloudy days you get enough to power both lights for a few hours. I've noticed some condensation in one of the lights, but that doesn't seem to have affected it's performance. Overall I'm happy, but I think I will have to install low-voltage lights anyway.

I've been a Smith & Hawken customer for years and was never let down by any of the products they market. These solar lights, however, are garbage. The angle adjustment bolt on the side of one of the fixtures broke of when I tried to adjust it (I was able to glue it back together with strong epoxy, but there is no way to adjust it now). The lights are quite bright when they work, that is their only good point. The glass part holding the bulb in is not sealed, so they fill with water very quickly even if at only a slight upward angle. Not a very useful for OUTDOOR lighting. I regret spending so much money on them when I could have purchased another set of inexpensive plastic spotlights that probably would have lasted at least through the winter. I cannot recommend these lights to anyone.

Most solar spotlights I've experienced tend to be pretty dim. These were nice and bright, and charged well. Attractive fixtures, too. However, they shorted out a few times, and then stopped working all together about 3 months after purchase. Replaced the battery, no luck. Will try another brand.

I am so happy to get this, although I did not get in time for my cousin's Wedding last month. This came afterwards, by a week later. :)

I checked it out, and it is beautiful, more than I expected. I sort of like to keep it myself. LOL, LOL. My Cousins, the Newlyweds are aware that there is another gift coming for them from me. My 86 year old mom has tried multiple hand held magnifiers over the years, some lighted, some not, in her efforts to keep reading after a diagnosis of dry macular degeneration. We decided to try this lamp due to the combination of LED lights, gooseneck positioning, and the strength of the magnifier.

In the month since the light was delivered my mom's life has expanded. She loves this light. With her hands free, she can work her large-print crosswords puzzles and is even reading magazines again. We are thrilled with the light and are so grateful that her quality of life is better because of it.

Our one wish for improvement with this light would be for a more weighty base for stability.

I thought I'd update my original review some 18 months after we originally purchased this terrific light.

Mom still loves her light, in fact, Thanksgiving day I overheard her tell a friend that it was her life saver. We've had no troubles with the light since it was purchased. The weight of the base hasn't been an issue for Mom and that is surprising because she is so wobbly.

I saw that it was on sale today and am thinking of buying it for my husband who also has vision troubles. I truly recommend this light to anyone needing hands-free lighted magnification.

Another update. Mom (now 89) still loves her light and uses it every day. No troubles with the LED lights, the base, or the gooseneck. Everything is still working perfectly. I'm so glad we purchased the light.

My wife purchased this lamp for cross stitching at night while we are watching tv. It replaces an older rattle prone cross stitch lamp. The LED is bright and allows her to direct the light to exactly where she needs it so that the light doesn't blind me while watching tv or even talking to her (the old one lit the room and tv like a runway). The magnification is great and she likes that portion. The only negative she spoke of was there is no place to clip the pattern she is following and thus has to pick it up and place it under the magnification when she needs it, but all else is great. She liked it so much she just bought another one to give to her aging dad for use while he does his crossword and game books. It will work terrific for him doing this.

The lamp is lighter weight and less stable than it looks in the picture. It was a little tough to secure the main "post" into the base securely. It is still just a little loose. The lamp itself has a tendency to totter when the magnifier is brought to the lower positions.

This said, the flexible arm is preferable to the hinged ones that are more common in magnifier lamps and the light and mirror are exactly what I need for small craft work. Overall a nice lamp for the price although far from perfect.

Delivery was fast and the packaging traveled well.

I bought this lamp to help my eyes with needlework. I like to sit down and lean back in the sofa or chair when I work. The lamp/magnifier was very carefully packaged and included an AC adapter. The lamp comes in separate pieces that are easy to assemble with easy to follow instructions. The height of the lamp is just right for a seated position but can be somewhat modified by adjusting the angle and tilt of the gooseneck part, but it is not height-adjustable otherwise. The weight of the base is appropriately balanced and the lamp is light enough to carry or move around. The LEDs give off a smooth and strain-less glow. The magnifier is so powerful that I almost don't need my reading glasses. The on/off switch for the LEDs is placed on top of the lamp in a convenient location. I think that the product description provided on the Amazon site doesn't tell you that the LEDs cannot be replaced. However, they are supposed to last 10,000 hours which is plenty. Overall, very good product and excellent value.

At 27" tall, this is one huge Lava lamp... and that's its appeal. They're great in an entertainment room the slow, smooth lava flow in one of these big lamps is nicely relaxing, and their soft blue-green glow allows you to see your surroundings without distracting from what's on the screen.

I love the things... but be aware that they take a while to warm up. The lava can take two or three hours to get fully flowing in these big lamps. Also, it takes several thermal cycles for a new lamp to really get flowing. The first time I turned them on one of my lamps still hadn't bubbled after six hours. I turned it off, let it cool down completely (3+ hours), and turned it on again; within a few hours it was working properly and flows nicely now.

Okay, at this point you have a five and a one star review. I was about to send mine back too after EIGHT HOURS waiting for this thing to work. Here is what you must do: Make sure the little spring wire loop is sitting in the very bottom of the bottle. You can turn and tip the bottle until it sits in the very bottom. Then, make sure the light bulb is centered. If it's not, remove the bulb and bend the light base until centered then replace the bulb. Next, run this beast for a good six hours then, turn it off and let it sit overnight! This will cause the wax to settle down after shipping. It will now work but it will still be different than other Lava lamps as described in the positive review below. After all these years in the business you would think Lava Co. would include better instructions and a description of this lamp's action (it does not look like the picture here, it's more like a storm on Jupiter). I guess they are old stoners over at Lava!

I purchased this a few days ago. Amazon is great to work with and are fantastic about a good customer experience, sadly Lava Lite of America is NOT. I've ordered several lights from Amazon, and typically they were cloudy when I opened the package. The packing slip will state this is normal and the lamps clear up (this is called "cycling the lamp", the idea is the water heats up and absorbs the material clouding the water). I can tell you it never clears up.

Lava Lite licenses the patent on the technology from the original company in Great Britain called Mathmos. Lava Lite stopped production of their lights in 2004, and exported all the manufacturing to China, where aparently production quality is pretty low. Supposedly steps have been taken to change that, but how would you know the lamps you buy are the newer ones? I took a chance on this lamp and it arrived with cloudy water :-(.

There are forums online that talk about kits and or waiting nine months, but I can't settle for inferior products like this. So I will be returning this to Amazon. Unfortunately Mathmos doesn't make a large lamp like this, so I won't be able to get this exactly. But I understand Mathmos still makes every lamp by hand and I think there is a video on their website.

Again, this is NOT Amazon's fault. It's Lava Lite of USA poor quality.

I have lots of lava lamps because I'm an old hippie. This one came last week and I've got to say it's the best ever. I don't know whether it's just a difference in fluid dynamics in a larger lamp, but it does things none of my other lava lamps do. It's not just lumps floating around, it's more like a weird changing diorama. Stuff appears, turns into amazing shapes, and disappears. It's also very mysterious looking. It's hard to describe. It's just deeper than the other ones, with a lot more changes happening. I don't stare at my other lava lamps much, but this one keeps drawing my attention. It's also HUGE! Knowing it was 29 inches didn't prepare me for seeing the actual item. It is tremendous. I love this lamp and want more (but the other variations are always sold out). By the way, the lava changes color from yellow to orange to red, all against the purple background. Amazing.
