I have been installing landscape lighting systems for over 10 years now as a part of home building and remodeling projects that I do. I have been in the past purchasing commercial grade transformers for durability and reliability. One system that we installed a couple of years ago had over 50 fixtures and used 900 watts of power. We installed a 900 watt transformer on this job, however it would fail at 6 month intervals. Even though the manufacturer would replace with a new one free of charge, the shipping and installing of a new transformer each time was costing me a lot of money as well as being frustrating for the client and us. So...

I decided to try replacing the one 900 watt transformer with 3 of these moonrays 300 watt transformers. And I can report that after over a year of service that they are still working great. Not a single problem running at their max rating of 300 watts. Several months ago we changed out the incandescent bulbs to LED's and now they are running around 250 watts on the whole system. Each of the 3 transformers is running about 83 watts. And they have been working great.

Last week the clients had a lightening strike near their home. It must have travelled thru the buried low voltage wire runs as we had a surge protector on the power line side of the transformers where they were plugged in. Over 30 of the fixtures had blown LED's. We ran an array of tests on the transformers and they were still working fine! I couldn't believe it. I am truly impressed with them. I am now using them on all of my jobs. With LED fixtures/bulbs becoming much more affordable, this 300 watt transformer is all we ever have to install even on very large jobs.

I do want to mention that the original ones that I ordered a couple of years ago had the photocell under the clear window to the left of the LED Indicator on the front of the unit. The Amazon photo still shows this same style transformer. The newer one no longer have the photocell in this location. Instead you can see a black and red wire at the old photocell location and now there is a 8 foot lead wire out of the bottom of the transformer with the photocell at the end of it. We usually mount our the transformer outside and the old style worked perfect for us, however this new style will allow you to mount the transformer inside or remotely within 8 feet of a sunlit location. We just coil the wire up and zip tie it close up on the under side of the transformer where it can still receive sunlight. This new design does allow greater flexibility of mounting options so it really is a better design. I hope the photocell holds up as well as the old ones do. I don't really see why they wouldn't. So far we haven't had any problems, but we have not tested the new design for over a year in operation yet.

2 more points I would like to make:

First is that there are only two screws on the underside of the transformer for you to connect your low voltage wire to. On the commercial transformers that we used to install there would be a bus bar that had pencil sized holes in it with captive screws coming up from underneath the holes to compress and hold the wires that were inserted into the holes. This would allow you to insert 3-12ga or 4-14ga wires into the hole easily and secure with screw. The way we work around attaching many wires to this transformer is by using 2 white and 2 black 12 gauge solid copper wires as pigtails. You can easily place the 2 white wires under either side of one of the screw terminals and the black wires on the other. Then you will have 2 neutrals and two hot pigtails that you can wire nut your low voltage wires too. We bend the pigtails up after installation so that the wire nuts are facing up and shed any water that may reach them.

Second is that on the commercial units you usually have stepped voltages on the bus bar. They would start at 12 volts and go up to 15 volts. You would then use the higher voltage outputs for longer runs of lights that were farther away or had more fixtures on them. This would allow you to even out the brightness levels of all your fixtures in your system. If you are running conventional incandescent or halogen bulbs then you may want to keep this in mind, especially if you have a landscape design that spreads out your fixtures at greatly varying lengths. This transformer has only one set of 12 Volt terminals.

LED lights have allowed us to make longer runs with smaller gauge wire and has virtually eliminated brightness variances. This transformer is a perfect fit for LED's. Also if you have a limited number of incandescent fixtures (10 or less maybe) and/or you have them run in parallel then this would probably work great as well.

In conclusion I will have to say that this transformer has exceeded my expectations and I have been very pleased with it. It has also dropping in price from &97 to $85 since I first purchased one over 2 years ago. This really is a great deal. Hope this review helps! Good Luck with your Landscape Lighting Project.

I bought 4 of these to redecorate our kitchen that just had recessed can lights. The difference in the room is amazing! It's more light but much warmer than before, really changed the feel of the kitchen. So easy to install....hardest part was getting them all exactly the same in length. Description says 8" is shortest but you can actually get them to go shorter. I've got mine at 3" and they are perfect! and the glass is beautiful too!

Installed two of these were there were existing can lghts above a kitchen island.

Looked at other ways to chang out the existing can fixtures. They were both going to take to long and cost a lot more.

All you have to do is remove the existing trim ring and lamp screw in the new scoket and adjust for lenght. Takes about ten minutes. To make fine adjustmets on length there is a existing wing nut inside most can fixtures which you can use to get the length of both fixtures the same,it is what the existing socket is attached to. When you are done you have a great new look for were the old can lights were.

Bought this to update the lighting over my kitchen island. It was easy, and they look great! As others have said, you will need to be patient to get the cords the same length. Let them hang for a day or two to "iron out the kinks", then try again. It might take a few tries. But this is a great product, and for the money, a real value! Highly recommend.

I got some of that light green putty stuff and stuck it to the ceiling with that. It sure would be nice if they still made the retractable lights like they did in the 50's. That would make this light much simpler to use.

Three weeks after I ordered this lamp, it arrived at my house with the glass shade broken. After talking to three different people on the invoice, they agreed to send me a replacement shade. Two weeks later that arrived--broken! I took a picture, and they agreed to send me another one. That one arrived intact (again, two weeks later), but it is almost impossible to get a new shade on, as you have to flex the metal without breaking the glass. This is an attractive lamp and is nicely weighted and balanced. It's also a good size for a bedside table. The lampshade is substantial and gives off a good amount of soft light. The pull apparatis is smooth and works well. The lamp I received had chipped paint on the base which showed base metal beneath. The metal frame that holds the lampshade was crooked. Not crazy about the paint over base metal, but had it not been chipped and had the framing been straight I would have kept it. It's going back. Quality not what I expected.

The light fixture came complete and my electrician hooked it up without any problems. I purchased this lamp mainly because it folded up flat for easy moving (as I'm in college, space is important). The lamp has 5 different brightness levels (controlled via TOUCHPAD!). The LEDs are very bright and light up my entire desk quite well.

Con:

The only con I have is that the lamp head is kind of loose, so it's hard to keep it from folding down on itself sometimes. It takes a few times to get it to stay at your preferred angle. Not too much of a con, but can be annoying if a nudge the lamp hard enough and the head just folds in.

Overall a good purchase (as I desperately needed to get a desk lamp), and I definitely recommend this lamp!

Styling: Aesthetic and functional style of this lamp is amazing. I love the accent colors along the top and the colored touch pad. The ac to dc transformer is small enough that it doesn't obstruct other plugs, a huge plus. Did I mention it has a touch pad? Fancy!

Efficiency/ Energy use: My killawat measures a 12 watt pull at full power a bit more than the description claims but still just a fraction of the pull from its halogen powered predecessor.

Potential negatives:

Light colorThe light has a definite blue color to it. I don't see this as a problem, but buyers should be aware as many have a strong preference toward warm light spectrum, this is most certainly on the cold side.

FingerprintsThe entire black surface of the lamp is high gloss, and a finger print magnet. After only a day of use it's covered in them. I don't see this as a problem but again, that's personal preference.

CostDang, this thing is costly, I mean yeah, it looks great, but it's a desk lamp. I'm still trying to justify to myself why I spent this much.

All in all, I'm satisfied. I reserve 5 star ratings only for phenomenal products. Don't get me wrong, this is a great product and I'm very satisfied and would recommend it.

The good? This is a bright LED lamp with modern styling. The multiple dim settings are nice. The bad? Dollar store quality manufacturing (made in China of course)... The case is made of cheap, glossy black plastic. The arm doesn't lock in place and is very loose and easy to knock out of position. The power connector is also loose and moving the lamp can easily shut it off (even if the power adapter is connected). The touch controls are kind of neat, but that also makes it easy to hit the wrong thing.

We had a Craftmade fan in our new home and it was painted all silver. We thought looked like a spaceship ready to land in our living room, which wasn't exactly the theme we were going for. After we replaced the old blades with these wood blades, it looks much better. One side of the blade is distressed, the other is not. We chose to put the smooth side down to match our wood cabinets. These blades fit our fan perfectly, even though the blades are a little wider than the original silver blades. They were fairly easy to install, but easier to do with two people. We are so glad we have a new look we can live with, without replacing the entire fan.

For Solar Lights they pretty bright but not super bright.

The light is mostly white with a slight tint of blue (Most LEDs are like this).

The light goes out about 10 feet on a pitch dark night.

In sunny CA the lights last at max lumes for about 6 hours & then slowly gets dimmer but it lasts all night.

Too bad the cosmetic designs are limited.

More base options would be better too as the six sided design does not match most posts.

The lamps (I bought a pair) worked fine for maybe 18 months, bright enough to show the driveway entrance, but the NiMH 4.8V battery pack didn't make it to the 3 years as claimed. I can deal with that, but to make the problem worse, no one (I searched the internet) has replacement batteries for it. There are 4 cell packs available with similar, or better specs, but it doesn't look like the connectors will match. I was hoping not to have yet another disposable solar light product, but it's looking like that's what's happening.

Note that the company now makes this model with Li-Ion batteries (not compatible of course with the older model). I hope the new one works better...

When I heard about Pelican's recoil technology I was afraid the light would be to focused and narrow. What I quickly realized is how perfect the spread is. It provides the brightest and strongest beam I have ever seen. When compared to my Maglite it dominates the and actually has a brighter spread. When pointed at pretty much any surface it light the entire 15 ft. area much like a lamp shade does to a regular light bulb. The LED is very reflective and increases the light's spread. On top of all this it comes with a Lifetime warranty from Pelican rendering this Flashlight indestructible. I do prefer a button to turn the light on but the twist cap works just fine. Also a detachable clip would be nice it can sometimes get in the way. But these minuscule setbacks aside the dependability of this flashlight decimates any cons it might have. I highly recommend this product to everyone.

Having purchased one of the StealthLite series a number of years ago for my sailboat, I was looking for a larger supplemental flashlight, and having been very pleased with the smaller StealthLite, seemed that the SabreLite 2000 would be a perfect addition to my maritime flashlight arsenal. However the achilles heel was the twist-on switch. I had to send it in for warranty work since it eventually would not turn on, no matter how hard I turned it (even with new batteries). They sent me back a new one. Next thing was that a marina neighbor of mine had dropped something in the water at night and needed to retrieve it. He turned the the lens cover the wrong way the first time he tried to turn it on and let water in-to the light's credit it continued to function, though. I flushed it out and and put a light coat of dielectric grease on the connections with no problems. However, a couple of days ago, I was rummaging through the storage drawer where I keep my flashlights and noticed that the light was on and very dim. I tried replacing the batteries with some extra ones I had but it was still a bit dim, perhaps because the spares were a year shy of their expiration date. I also noticed for the first time that the focal point of the LED was not in the center of the lens/reflector assembly. That revelation was the last straw and I threw it away in disgust. I have just ordered another StealthLite (the one with the gloin the dark lens bezel) which has a flip on switch and a xenon bulb. The problem with the twist-on switch on some flashlights is that there can be too fine a balance between turning it off and having it too loose.

This light is very bright, easy to use and the light penetrates deep into tunnels, holes, etc. The lanyard is nice cause it secures it to either your arm or BCD so you don't lose it. You will not be disappointed in this light.
