I purchased this for my pewter Huxley fan (Fanimation FP5620PW Huxley Ceiling Fan, Pewter Finish, 5 Cherry/Walnut Blades).

The good: Looks nice, goes with the Huxley look, the 180W lighting is pretty sufficient for a medium-size room, and the finial nut matches the glass well.

The bad: Apparently there are two designs for the Huxley fan speed pull chain, which gets threaded through this bowl. On my fan, the chain comes out horizontally from the the side of the switch cup housing. On the box it came in, one picture shows the chain coming out diagonally halfway down the switch cup housing. See the picture on Fanimation FP5620OB Huxley Ceiling Fan, Oil Rubbed Bronze Finish, 5 Cherry/Walnut Blades.

The light kit's hole for the fan speed pull chain is an un-grommeted hole in the glass right next to the finial nut. Once I threaded my fan's pull chain through it, it put it at a very awkward angle. Pulling on the chain makes it scrape at a sharp angle to the glass, and pulls it more than 20 degrees inward from vertical. The balls get stuck on both the upper guiding nut and the glass bowl hole edges. Yuck. It seems the alternate pull chain location would have worked much better it would place the chain much closer to the bowl's hole, without all the weird angles.

If you're going to be using the fan speed pull chain, check its location on the switch cup housing before buying this light kit!

Installation was easy as a replacement light. I would have called a real electrician for a new installation. I replaced both front & backyard lights; backyard has trees close to house so lights go on & off in moderate to high winds. It took a little diddling over several nights to get the adjustments right, but not bad. Lights have only been up for a month, so don't know about longevity yet.

This is a very pretty fixture, has a mid-century look, but the glass part of the pendant we received was defective. We weren't able to get it straight. After sending a picture to Philips they agreed the glass was "off" and had us return it to Amazon. Amazon didn't have anymore in stock so we had to go with a different fixture.

We bought three of these for our master bathroom. They arrived two days sooner than expected and were in perfect condition. Excellent packaging. Excellent quality, easy to install. They give off plenty of downward light. We live near water and I thought the design of these lights reflected that. Goes well with contemporary hardware we installed on cabinets. My only disappointment was that I have to use candelabra size light bulbs (with rounded tips, flame tips will be too long)but I bought the longest life ones I could find. Changing bulbs will take you a little longer as the three support arms of each light are not stationary. They curve into the beautifull glass shade and are held on by a decorative, sturdy brushed nickel covered nut. They really are beautiful. Would order lights from Nuvo again.

I purchased 2 of these for my master bath and love the look; however as a previous reviewer stated the bulbs are difficult to change and burn out frequently. I have tried many different brands of bulbs (some rather expensive) but they still burn out within a month or so. The BR is only used in the morning and evening so it isn't as though the lights are on for any length of time. I gave it a 4 because I love the way they look but if I could find a set of bulbs that lasted longer I would give it a 5 +.

The light fixture looks great and mounts easily on a standard junction box. However, the type of bulbs G16.5 (Candelabra Base) that will fit within the small glass globes is extremely limited. We tried several versions, finally finding an IKEA compact fluorescent that "fit" if only barely. As it turns out, tightening the bulb to make it fit within the glass globe (barely) resulted in one broken socket. Remains to be seen if this can be repaired to restore function.

This light is solid stainless steel metal, every screw, the shade, the base, and the joints. There is a counter-weight opposite the light to keep it balanced. The thumb-screws to tighten the joints are machined well and easy to use. You can positions the light at any height or direction and it will not tip over. The light is a tube light, which may be hard for some people to replace as you have to measure the diameter and length. Google "sizing a tube light" if you have any questions. Overall it's well built. There is a plexi-glass cover to the light.

Minka-Aire are high quality fans that actually push the air. The fan on high, medium or low produce zero sound. Very easy to mount quality hardware. Everything is provided except for a phillips screwdriver & wire strippers. Quality wire-nuts, mounting bolts, Sticky back balance weights & 1 balancing weight that you can slide along the edge of the fan blade "It stays in place; very snug fit, will not fling off." I love my new fan. I needed to replace the fan in the master bedroom and this seemed to fit the bill when I read the reviews. It came with easy to follow directions and installation was complete in 2.5 hours! Not a bad re cord for a complete novice! It came complete with light attachment, glass globe and even an energy saving light bulb! Complete! No need for trip to hardware store! It really is quiet and yet puts out a blast of air -have it on medium whereas old fan had to be on high, and was anything but quiet!

This was a super cute lamp... until one day I set a metal necklace on the lamp base (it was plugged in but not turned on) connecting the two telescoping ends, connecting some sort of circuit and the lamp started to catch on fire! the base was smoking noxious burning plastic smoke.

I had bought two of these lamps (different batch numbers) and they both spark and start to catch on fire when you connect the two telescoping ends with anything metal. Yeah, the scientist in me wanted to see if it was reproducible.

DO NOT GET THIS LAMP!! I have reported it to the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the report is posted and searchable on their website.

I bought this lamp to read late at night without disturbing my sleeping spouse. This little lamp casts just enough concentrated light to read, and without the flickering that some earlier "booklights" produced. It works great and takes up very little space on my nightstand.

I bought this for its sleek look. Bad decision. I should have researched a bit more.

Opening the package, I noticed it's a lot smaller than I had thought. Assembly took almost no time, after switching it on --alas --what a big let down. Despite the number of LEDs, the light is still dim, and the area it lightens on the desk is barely able to cover a piece of letter sized paper, even when it's fully extended.

I would give it a one star for I really can't think of any use how to salvage this $30 purchase.

The lamp arrived very timely and is exactly like the picture and small as described. I didn't realize the shade fit over the light bulb and did not have a finial piece to screw the shade on. I didn't like that at all. I can't use the energy saving light bulbs in this lamp. So it depends on what a person wants. If you are satisfied with regular light bulbs then this little lamp will do you well. However, I think the price is too high for what you get.

This is a nice subtle wall sconce. It's not large and the oval-within-an-oval design makes it look even smaller. The glass is sort of milky translucent and the scalloping on the glass adds an element of interest without being obvious. I like that the sconce sticks out of the wall just a few inches. The light bulb is so tiny, I thought it wouldn't give off much light but it's pretty bright. Overall effect is understated but not boring. I have it in the living room, where it compliments, rather than competes with, my decor. I just wish they offered the metal part in some other colors as well, but I guess you could always paint the metal plate. Certainly just as nice as some very similar sconces that are priced much higher.

We love the Bell & Howell Sunlight lamp. My husband and I, both Senior Citizens, have one at each of our computer stations, as well as one by the reading chair.

The goose-neck allows the lamp to be placed so that it illuminates the keyboard and the book or document one is typing from. There is no glare, and one's work is never in shadow. The light is focused in the area where it is needed, on the keyboard, crossword puzzle, needlework or reading material. The Bell & Howell Sunlight Lamp makes reading a pleasure again, free from eyestrain.

The best thing about this lamp is the light -it is excellent for reading. The light, which is much different than my overhead incandescent light, seems to minimize eye strain. However, the materials of construction are flimsy and poorly toleranced -and the shipping price was about 25% of the total cost.

As someone else mentioned above, the switch went out on my lamp after about a year. Thinking it was just a short-lived bulb, I ordered two new bulbs. Now I have to decide on whether to blow $40-some bucks on another cheap lamp.

Does anyone make a decent lamp that uses these types of bulbs? It's sad that the name Bell and Howell is now associated with junk like this.

The Bell and Howell reading lamp is made in China. We bought one and it only lasted 2-3 years. We thought the fluorescent lamp went out on it so we bought a replacement bulb but that wasn't it. We tried replacing the ballast and that didn't work either. This lamp while it provides good reading light is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. Works for awhile and then fills up our landfill. Its a good lamp if you don't mind having to replace it every few years.

I was not sure what to do with all my trees over the winter. I made a mistake and forgot to water my 40 year old ficus which has an amazing 10 inch trunk. I also have been babying my serissa for about 8 years and have had many sections die off. I knew my main problem was that they were not getting the right amount of light over the winter in the north east parts of Massachusetts. This year I decided I would build a bonsai hospital. First I had to sort out an area that my darn plant eating cat could not get into. Then I ordered this light. I went a few steps further and went to my local home hardware store and bought a set of 2" PVC pipes and fittings making a jig to hold the light up about 5 feet off the ground. Then I put the light on a timer and ended up not only reviving my 40 year old ficus, but my serissa looks better than it does after a warm bright wet summer! I even put my herbs and my orchids under it and all in all this saved my entire plant collection for the winter. I do recommend making a stand of sorts. I used 2 "T" fittings for the legs and the risers, then 2 elbows for the pipe that spans between the feet and drilled two holes in them inserting hooks through them so I could suspend the light. It all breaks down for summer storage and I am sooooo happy with the results. Also, this thing throws out so much light you can't even look into it, yet it uses so little energy! Its like having a 125 watt bulb on, so yes it uses some, but you will (more importantly your plants) will love love love it!!

UPDATE: This summer my plants are doing better than ever. My orchid I mentioned above even flowered!!! First time ever since I got it. This winter they will all be pampered again under this light.

I had an old 400Watt Metal halide Hydrofarm light that the ballast finally gave up the ghost on. It has been in my living room over a water garden with plants around it for years. I call it my Florida corner, where I can forget it's winter when it's cold out. :-)

I had been thinking about getting a CFL light to replace it, to use less electricity, but hung on to the old one because it seemed like a waste to not use it while it was still working. When it died, I figured it was time.

I didn't have the finances to buy a 250Watt CFL, so settled on this 125Watt version. The price was right, and I took a chance on it being shipped well since others had problems with breakage. I had the UPS guy open the package before accepting it the bulb was fine but they could have packaged it a bit better. It was in a Hydrofarm box, so I am wondering if it was Hydrofarm that packaged it that way.

Anyway, we removed the old metal halide light, and put this up. It is much lighter and smaller, and much, much, quieter. I can't hear anything at all the old metal halide ballast was so noisy I had to put it in another room and run the cord through a window. That is a big improvement. The ballast is on the bulb itself too, so I was able to plug the power cord into a socket in the living room, which is nice. No more running it out the window into the greenhouse. The cord was quite long, probably over 6 feet.

It doesn't have quite as bright a light as the metal halide, but it's obviously a broader spectrum as the colors look more natural. I really like it better, and I'm thinking my plants will too. I hope to get more flowers from my African Violets, and all the vines should grow better.

I notice that in the literature that came with it that it will accept a 200Watt bulb. I'm seriously thinking about purchasing one, and putting the 125Watt one in storage for later use as as spare.

All in all I am happy with this light, and recommend it so far.
