Review of Progress Lighting P3513-46 Arts and Craft 2-Light Close-To-Ceiling

To begin with, once this item is installed, the light emitted is so weak that you will need other sources of light. I think this should be marketed as an outside light and it is not meant for inside your home. Also, the installation is a nightmare. The disk to append it to the ceiling does not allign with the screw holes in any way. This item does not cone assembled and assembly is not easy at all. Also, the insulation used is glass wool and it itches twrribly and it gets into the skin as you try to install this lamp. To make things worse, when you open the packaging you find that this item is packed with cheap brittle crushed brown paper that gets everywhere and is a nightmare to clean. I should have returned this item immediately but but we pressed on with the installation to the point where once we installed it half way there was no way we could take it down and repackage it without wasting additional colossal

amounts of time and patience. Additionally, because the pacakging is so poor I could not send the item back becauae i did not want to deal with the above mentioned crushed brittke brown paper nor with the glass wool of the insulation. so i spent about 90 bucks and i have a useless lamp which is too weak to work by itself and I regret buying it every time I lay my eyes on it.

The slate comes in 9 pieces which the user must install. The slate absorbs a lot of light. I have two compact fluorescent bulbs installed with total equivalent light output of 200 watts. The resulting output through the slate seems like having one old dim 25 watt incandescent bulb. I like the style of this fixture, but I won't be able to live with the dim light output, so I have removed 4 slate pieces, at least temporarily until I can find some craft person who can customize various glass textures cut to size to replace the slate. The thumb screws that hold the decorative casing to the inner fixture are difficult to align and screw in. I've almost stripped the thread a couple of times now.

As soon as I can get the right glass pieces in it, I think I'll love it, but for now, I've been frustrated and disappointed.

First major problem: they don't tell you it doesn't come installed. You have to put all the glass pieces in. They don't hold in tightly so there are gaps (so in my case I put in metal wire to hold them up.) But then I held it up to the fixture with a lit bulb and it was DARK yellow. Like an exit light. The picture makes it look MUCH lighter than it really is. They call it honey glass but they don't show it like honey. So picture the color of honey and then that's what this looks like. But it's also ridiculous to have to construct it oneself and not have the glass sit properly.

This should not be called a "light" since it provides none! The installation was a nightmare, and we could not place it the way we wanted on our ceiling. We gave up and just wanted to be done with it. Once we powered up the light we couldn't believe it was actually on! It was a horrible dark yellow glow. We took it down immediately. I also purchased the matching mini-pendants which are just as bad to install, but we liked the light they provided so we kept them in place.

The temperature of the light is very cold and anesceptic feeling. But I guess u could call it "daylight" color temp. More disappointing is that the led bulbs annoyingly flicker at low levels and that they wont turn themselves all the way off with my wall dimmers. No memtion was made of this on the product site. I guess im supposed to go buy some specialised LED dimmer switch. Super lame!

If you live is a smaller in-city house this is a little big for most. With only one link in the chain mine hangs down 14 inches and is 12 inches in diameter. However, I like the "Dark Sky" idea of not shining in my neighbors eyes-only illuminating what I want illuminated..seeing more stars. (I still have sensor lights that turn on for safety).

As for the quality I have a mixed review. It feels like heavy metal and makes a bong when hit...a good quality feel....as for the directions and ease of assembly mine was half put together all wrong which means I had to "fix" it the right way and this added an hour to my time..the directions are not that clear so I had to play with it a little to get the pieces in the right place...if you were hiring an electrician make sure it is put together right before his/her time starts. In addition the chain links are so strong I had to find a way to open a link using a clamp, priers and small hammer...too difficult. I was very close to sending it back but had an hour of my time invested when I finally got a link of the chain to open.

I would pay 75.00 or 100.00 but not 300.00 there is too much assembly for a 300.00 product

Product was ordered and never shipped. I was given a tracking number that was fabricated and not a true tracking number. I was told on several times that they were going to ship the fixtures but never did. I had to initiate all communication and finally ended up cancelling the order. Communications I did receive back from the vendor were rude and useless. Don't waste your time with Shower Door Direct! Nightmare!!

These amazingly enough are exactly what the product says they are. They are very well constructed, very nice finish.

I'm always a little worried about what to expect in terms of actual quality, and these lanterns where a very nice surprise in terms of quality, esthetics, size, & finish right down to the hardware.

Easily installed in minutes.

Note these have more of an ambience lighting effect (flickering candle), than actual cast light, but mounted on our deck privacy screens,add a real nice finishing touch.

I was a little worried about the cost, i think these could be a little cheaper than $84.12 a pair, but I think I received what I paid for for a change, and honestly there is really not a lot of selection that offers all the features of this solar lattern including the matching post/wall mountable hooks, leaving the latterns easily removable for winter storage.

The only negatives to this order was that these use actual frosted glass, which had a few marks and clear rub spots, so I guess they are not sand blasted glass, but they're outdoors so not a huge issue

Second was that Amazon had these shipped from two different suppliers and one did not use the original packaging, so at first I was worried that the re-pack meant a return or possible missing parts, but it was in fact all complete.

Having a variable lighting option from flickering to a steady light or dimness switch might be a nice option.

Of the 4 of these I bought, two of them worked very dimly, & not for very many hours at a time. I took them apart & discovered significant corrosion on the battery terminals and battery mount contacts; a clear indication that they have spent way too much time in a warehouse. After cleaning the mounting contacts, they were better, but improved more when I replaced the batteries. My caution? Be ready to do a little work on these when you get them, and buy replacement batteries or send at least part of them back. Poor/ non-existent quality control. Yes, the wiring is exposed on the underside. If these hang above eye level like ours are, you'll see them. I bought these because I thought they'd be high quality compared to the plastic junk you find at your local store. Certainly. Top dollar, but high quality, they are not. Metal frames pear to be of reasonable quality.herest of it; not so much.

The light is gorgeous, but the fabric shade is from the 70's. Easily remedied, just recover the shade in a nice fabric and you'll have exactly what you see in the picture. I am ordering matching products, so really pleased.

The lamp is on my desk and has earned compliments from guests walking past the study. The switch is easily accessible and I use a CFL bulb which doesn't create a big heat build-up. I did have to adjust it to almost a straight down position as the glare from the inner surface of the shade was a bit bothersome for my liking. It has a nice solid look to it. The adjustment feature does give this lamp more versatility, making it useful in many ways.

I imagine that under studio lighting the bronze sheen might come through. Except I don't have studio lighting and the lamp looks like it is solid black. Different from what is pictured different from what I expected.

The white interior of the shade also makes the whole lamp look a little cheap. I plan to return and keep shopping.

On the plus side, the shape is attractive, the lamp is not tippy, and the on-off toggle switch is on the base at the front of the lamp, aka, a convenient location.

This was a super cute lamp... until one day I set a metal necklace on the lamp base (it was plugged in but not turned on) connecting the two telescoping ends, connecting some sort of circuit and the lamp started to catch on fire! the base was smoking noxious burning plastic smoke.

I had bought two of these lamps (different batch numbers) and they both spark and start to catch on fire when you connect the two telescoping ends with anything metal. Yeah, the scientist in me wanted to see if it was reproducible.

DO NOT GET THIS LAMP!! I have reported it to the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the report is posted and searchable on their website.

I bought this lamp to read late at night without disturbing my sleeping spouse. This little lamp casts just enough concentrated light to read, and without the flickering that some earlier "booklights" produced. It works great and takes up very little space on my nightstand.

I bought this for its sleek look. Bad decision. I should have researched a bit more.

Opening the package, I noticed it's a lot smaller than I had thought. Assembly took almost no time, after switching it on --alas --what a big let down. Despite the number of LEDs, the light is still dim, and the area it lightens on the desk is barely able to cover a piece of letter sized paper, even when it's fully extended.

I would give it a one star for I really can't think of any use how to salvage this $30 purchase.

I bought this so I could see my keyboard without putting the main lights on and getting reflections and glare off my screen. Ideal, although another couple of inches of height would be nice. Enough light too to give a pool of light just big enough to read by, without dazzle.

If you want to light up the whole work surface though, this isn't it.

I bought eight of these lights for an outdoor patio remodel. I only have one up so far and I like it. It is plenty bright with a 40W bulb. I think I will actually put 25W bulbs in instead. These use the tubular style bulbs. The light looks great when not on, as well, which is usually when I am out on the patio.
