Product was mostly as advertised, delivered on time and in good condition. I say "mostly" and gave it four stars because there were no dimensions provided at Amazon and the fixture turned out to be larger in diameter than expected, more of a kitchen ceiling light than a bathroom ceiling light which is what I was looking for because I wanted to match the (same style) wall fixture from the same manufacturer.

The lamp needs very minor assembly which is easily done, you don't even need instructions (a good thing since I didn't get any). I wanted a floor lamp that did not have the round flat disk base that most floor lamps rest on because I'm sick of that look. So this one is at least different with its tripod legs and it is handy to move near a project needing extra light. The height of the lamp is adjustable, it's very versatile. I like that I can aim the beam at a wall to get indirect lighting in a room. But for the price, and I realize there are lamps out there costing waaaaaaaaay more than this one, but for around $75 I expected something better than what I got. I have a desk lamp that I bought many years ago at Walmart for about ten bucks and the quality far exceeds that of this floor lamp. It works and all that but it just has a sort of flimsy, cheap feel to it. The on/off knob feels flimsy as do the knobs that loosen and tighten to hold the shade at the desired angle. First try and the knobs won't turn enough, more force and you ge them loose, then to tighten you turn them, they feel tight, let go of the shade and it falls forward so more force on the cheap knobs and it stays put. If I had found this at Dollar General for ten dollars I'd be raving about it, even if I had paid $20 and I'd be happy. But no way is this lamp worth $75. Still, I'm keeping it. Update: I did discover that there was a bolt loose inside the shade and by tightening it the shade stays put better when I re-aim it.

This light burns hot. It does not have a stable base, so be sure to set it on a level surface. Of all the purchases we've made on Amazon we consider this our only mistake.

I've been looking for an affordable spotlight lamp for a while and when I saw this product I decided to buy it even though the reviews weren't that great. I'm glad I gave it a chance. It looks great, unique and fun. It was also easy to put together. I would recommend it.

I bought this for decor in my media room. It looks great and serves its function. However, it is very cheaply made and the span of the leg base is much to narrow for the height, making it very top heavy and easy to tip over. I am fine with that since the lights are not in an area where anyone will be walking by. You get what you pay for so I can't complain.

I added these during a recent renovation of my bathroom. This light fixture sits directly between my standup shower and the toilet and offers a great amount of light and looks very high class. Just keep in mind the bulb socket type BEFORE you go buy bulbs for it (doh!). Overall, for the price, I have no issues with it.

Buy GE 99655 - GE228MVPS-A T5 Fluorescent Ballast

GE 99655 - GE228MVPS-A T5 Fluorescent Ballast
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
This two lamp T5 ballast from GE seems to have a good balance of features: rapid start (0.9), decent ballast factor (0.95), parallel lamp operation, anti-striation. Instead of two lamps, this ballast can also operate a single lamp at reduced efficiency. Single lamp operation is a common failure mode for two lamp fluorescent lights.

This ballast will drive, at varying degrees of efficiency F35, F28, F21, and F14 lamps. As a general word of advice, if you want the longer F35 lamps, you may have to special order them. My local big home improvement retail warehouse does not stock F35 lamps.

Besides this General Electric 99655 GE228MVPS-A program start ballast for frequently switched applications, I also took a close look at the Sylvania 49180 QTP 2x28T5/UNV PSN NL ballast, which seems to be the leading competitor. Truth be told, comparing fluorescent light ballasts is tedious work, and I couldn't be bothered, I flipped a coin and went with the GE ballast for a few dollars more, suspecting they were more energy efficient. The one obvious thing that appealed to me about the Sylvania model is that it is available in a leadless wire trap version (49181), so you can buy 18 gauge wire separately and cut the conductors to the ideal length for your installation. The Sylvania ballast also has a longer, narrower, flatter form factor than the GE ballast.

The two manufacturers make it difficult to compare the two ballasts side by side. GE seems to emphasize their ballast's performance with F35 bulbs, while Sylvania seems to emphasize their ballast's performance with F28 bulbs. I'm satisfied with the GE ballasts, I bought. I suspect the competing Sylvania ballast would be good too.

I bought this for a marble lamp. The cardinal red color complements the white marble nicely.

This is a high quality shade, made from silk. It's a bit smaller than I was expecting, mainly because the lamp is very large. This shade would be best for a smaller lamp.

BlueMax 42 Watt Full Spectrum Work Station Lamp, White

I purchased this lamp 3 1/2 years ago for $129.95 and expected it to far outlast its two year warranty. Most of us assume that when we spend $100.00+ for a desk lamp it will last more than a couple of years but alas that was not my experience with this lamp. It just died, won't go on, period. Unfortunately it is out of warranty and after calling its manufacturer, Full Spectrum Solutions, I was informed that they have no viable solutions for me so I now have a very expensive door stop. So consider very carefully when you plop down $100.00 for this lamp or $170.00 for its 72 watt sibling if you would still make the purchase knowing that this lamp may only last 3-4 years at best. About 10 years ago I bought 3 desk lamps from Verilux (sold here on Amazon) and guess what they all still work perfectly and cost half as much as this lamp. When it worked it was very bright and I found that I rarely if ever used the dimmer function. I was not much brighter than the Verilux however and certainly not worth the extra $$$.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Like another reviewer, I found the floor lamp version of the 42watt light stopped operating before the bulb failed.

When it failed, since it might have been the bulb, I contacted BlueMax which now seems to be operating under the name Full Spectrum Solutions. BlueMax has a "live chat" service -but no one responds when you try to access it. BlueMax promises a quick response to requests for customer service, but after a week, no response at all. I was forced to order a new bulb ($40+) to find out if the lamp or the bulb had failed. It was the lamp. Now I can pay to ship the bulb back if Full Spectrum will accept it -and pay for shipping ($11+ for a package weighing ounces) and for shipping it back. Not a product I would buy again.

Beyond that, it does give very bright and good light. The gooseneck is rather inflexible on the floor lamp and the unit is poorly balanced (the base is too light and/or too small to support the long lamp), so it is in constant danger of tipping over if placed on carpet.

A good lamp, too bad it has such a short life.

Best Deals for BlueMax 42 Watt Full Spectrum Work Station Lamp, White

I upgraded from the Verilux lamp, which also made me very happy, after doing careful research. The light is very pleasant, soothing and it never flickers! Then something terrible happened: it stopped working... I could have chosen to use this lamp as an expensive doorstop, but I remembered it came with a solid warranty. I took the bold step to call the 800 customer service number. Wait time was 30 seconds if you can shoulder that. I was immediately connected to a knowledgeable and helpful rep. She correctly diagnosed my bulb was fine (it was still under warranty anyway) and sent me free of charge the "ballast" a rather complex part which is located at the base. It arrived much faster that I had expected. All it took was a screwdriver to open the base and replace the part, which is about how difficult as replacing batteries. That lamp is fantastic and worth every penny. For clarity's sake, my lamp is slightly different. It has the same wattage (42W) but is more like a desk lamp (that's why it has a base). Some might complain that the lamp is heavy, but so what? You're not supposed to carry it around and that makes it more stable. Expensive? Quality is expensive. How much did you spend on your (designer) glasses? As for me, I ditched my glasses (I was shortsighted) which I wore for 30 years. I am not ascribing to this or the Verilux lamp, but it's my own experience. I'm past 60 and don't even use reading glasses. I strongly recommend this or other similar lamp, especially during winter time. Even your mood will improve.

Honest reviews on BlueMax 42 Watt Full Spectrum Work Station Lamp, White

This lamp is well-made. It is easy to position, and stays put where you want it. I have mine clamped to a shelf over my work table. It does not droop. The on/off switch is large enough and conveniently located. The light is bright but not glaring. Two thumbs up!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for BlueMax 42 Watt Full Spectrum Work Station Lamp, White

I just ordered and received two of these. I wasn't expecting an engineering marvel for $95 bucks, but...

In most ways, the lamp seems decent enough. The assembly of the base portion to the middle tube, and then to the lamp head leaves a bit to be desired in an electrical sense. You have to clip the wire ends together via a four-conductor plug and jack, and then stuff it all in the tube as you shove the parts together and fasten the screws. Installing the bulb, while not rocket science, requires more dexterity and strength than you think at first. You really have to push the bulb base rather hard to get it to click in place in the socket. And click in place it must for a good electrical connection. I wonder what it's going to be like to get it out, if ever necessary.

The articulation of the head leaves something to be desired. It's ok at shallow angles. But if you want to have the most height from the support (standing it up almost straight) and then angle the head sharply (something close to 90 degrees) it fights you a bit. It wants to relax back to a less acute angle. It can be done, but you have to really push it.

The biggest disappointment is the way it sits in the clamp. The clamp itself is a solid affair. But the shaft of the lamp is retained in a hole in the clamp that is so sloppy, the lamp wobbles and moves around with little to no effort. In other words; it's ridiculously loose. There should be some sort of sleeve, or just a tighter fit, at this important junction.

But, other than that it seems like a decent lamp. We'll see how it holds up over time.

Update 3-25-13: I've lowered my rating to two stars. After using these lamps for a while, I just find the overall cheapness of manufacture to be quite unsatisfactory. They are cheaply made, and while $95 isn't a fortune, they are still over-priced. I've since gotten rid of these and upgraded to Dazor task lamps (the 6134 with the optional Wolf LED lamp). What a joy to have a mechanically sound design and great LED lighting. Yeah, they were $269 apiece, but quality is worth it.

I really wasn't sure what to expect from a $50 flashlight, but after reading a few reviews scattered around the web, I decided to go for it. I have to say, I'm glad I did. Though I still balk a bit at such a high price, the fact that the MSRP is so much higher at least makes me feel like I'm getting a deal. ;)

The LED's:

-The brightness of the main LED is quite good. It has a very even light pattern and isn't a "spot" on the wall. It diffuses well and offers a larger light circle the farther away the object. Though this necessarily means there's less illumination, the wider angle of coverage means you don't have to be so precise where you point the light; the general direction will do. The various levels of intensity are nice as well. Combined with the fact that you can run the flashlight off a single AA, you effectively have 6 different levels of illumination.

-The colored LED's are another strength. They are sufficiently bright at "max" and step down well at the mid and min settings. I did not notice a difference in light output between one and two AA's, so I think it's safe to count on only three settings. The red and blue lights had a nice, evenly diffused pattern, but the green showed obvious light and dark rings, so I'm not sure if that's a factor of its intensity (our eyes being most sensitive to green) or if the LED is defective. I may call Energizer to see.

-The UV light is a nice touch. It appears to be a black light, so UVA, and not the type of UV lights you might see on CSI (since we don't have blood spatter on our walls, I can't really test whether Grissom would use it or not ;) ). It only has one setting, but depressing the power button for the main LED (on the bottom) causes it to strobe (which gave me a headache after about 5 seconds).

-The switches are a bit of a weak spot, with the main LED switch being on the bottom and a bit recessed, and the color LED switches having nothing to distinguish the color by touch or sight aside from memorizing their location. I could see this being a bit of a pain with numb or gloved fingers.

-The three intensity settings on the lights are only available when you first turn them on, resetting to "off" after 3s. This is both good and bad as you can instantly turn off a light, but you would have to cycle through a full on/off setting if you just wanted it to be a bit less bright. No real way around this I guess. I don't count this as a flaw, just an observation.

Construction:

-The body seems fairly sturdy. The battery door has a locking mechanism and a beefy O-Ring, so I'm inclined to believe the waterproof claims (haven't tested it beyond letting it sit in a bathtub for about 5 minutes while depressing buttons, which it handled fine). The box gives a depth rating of 1m, so it's definitely not suited for swimming/snorkeling/diving, but should hold up well when fording a river. Given the construction, I also believe the 3m drop rating.

-The swivel feature is a bit disappointing since the detents are only at the 0º and 90º angles and are not solid enough for me (I can move the head back and forth slightly). In fact, I could see these becoming worn and possibly breaking if treated too roughly (at least there's a lifetime warranty). The swivel will not "lock" at a ~110º position (pointing toward the ground), though it can be swiveled that far. I see that as a possible issue if it's strapped to a shoulder strap for hands-free operation.

-The clip is quite solid, so no worry about this being knocked off a shoulder strap or belt.

-The locking switch that controls whether you can turn the LED's on/off strikes me as a bit on the cheap side. It's a plastic swivel switch so there's no positive "click" in the three positions, and I'm not sure how well it will hold up to a lifetime of abuse. Still, lifetime warranty...

Other:

-I haven't had a chance to test the battery life, but the fact that one battery can be stored "opposite" as a backup is a nice touch. The worst scenario would be having only one dead battery if it was accidentally left on. VERY nice to have.

-This flashlight won't win any beauty contests, but then again, who buys flashlights to look good? :D

-Ergonomically-speaking, I don't see the being a conformable flashlight to hand-carry for long periods of time, but the (removable) clip on the back would help in this respect, since it could be attached to something.

-No lanyard hole. Boooooo. I guess you could tie something to the clip, but still.

Overall:

I really would give this a 4.5-star rating, but I'm impressed by how much stuff Energizer packed in here, that I have no trouble rounding up. The weak spots are there of course, but I think they're relatively minor (except for the lack of a lanyard hole). All-in-all, Energizer did an excellent job, and the fact that it has a lifetime warranty really makes this flashlight a good buy. (To be honest, however, I wouldn't pay more than 50.)

The video: Shot in our back yard with a Sony Bloggie. I did not realize how fast I talk.... but you get the idea. I demo all light modes, colors, etc.

This light is amazingly compact I had no idea it would be this small (5 1/2" long). The swivel face has 5 LED's:

UV

Blue

Red

Green

White

The UV LED is activated with the orange "lock" switch on the front. All the other LED's have their own switches you can turn on the LED's individually or in any combination. I wish the main LED light was not on the bottom it's awkward either you need two hands, you have to turn it upside down, or have it clipped to your belt to press the button. It really should be on the side or front. The "lock" switch for the U/V is overkill.

The colored LED's are the typical medium-power LED's. The white LED is the new generation high-power LED. It features a "TIR" lens. To quote the manufacturer...

"The TIR Lens(tm), is a Totally Internally Reflecting face angled relative to entry and exit faces to redirect the radiant energy incident from the entry face towards the exit face." Basically shallow lens, wide beam.

The swivel feature is great if you want the light at 45 or 90 degrees it locks there. There is no lock for in-between angles. The lock is also not very solid a hard bump will move the head.

Waterproof good to one meter so it's safe in the rain or on a boat or rafting. But it sinks. If you use the "Energizer Ultimate Lithium" batteries, it sinks slow enough that you can grab it (those batteries are lighter weight) with regular batteries, it sinks much faster. If you are going to use it around deep water, I'd suggest a leash or lanyard.

The belt clip is strong, and will secure the light to a 2" belt, pants, back-pack webbing, etc. You could clip it to the front of your pants for a forward-looking hands-free light. You could attach it to a 1" belt or webbing, but it will slide around.

If you're into a photographer, light painting with long exposures, this is a great tool it's a flood light, so you can get some great coverage fast.

Setting the power: Each LED (except the UV) has three power settings. Press the power switch rapidly to change power High Med Low. When you turn off the light (any LED) the light does not remember the previous setting it always turns on at full brightness.

Follow-up: Just used the light at several locations this weekend. As expected, it works well illuminating large spaces, and is great for light-painting. The blue and green beams actually light well. It's useless as a spot as expected tried to light a 2x3 foot tunnel than was VERY long. Only the first couple of feet of the walls were lit. That's where you need a spot. But for everything else, it's great!

Best Deals for Energizer Night Strike LED Light with Swivel Head

I like the compact size and right angle head. That's my preferred form for a flashlight; but it locks at 90 and 180 and floats anywhere in between. The light colors are intriguing and the intensity adjustability is surprisingly useful. Other than the UV, I didn't realize how useful the other colors would be. (Just try it around the house and office)

My only disappointment is the UV wavelength...it does an adequate not great job of fluorescing some body fluids...yeah, gross. I travel a lot and have carried a much heavier Inova UV light to check out hotel rooms. The good news is that most of the mid-range hotels do well and a problem is rare. And I carry a small regular LED flashlight as well. I was hoping this would do double duty and I suspect that with judicious use of the different colors I'll spot more than I ever wanted to so this is the only light I will travel with now.

I came close to knocking off one star for the pricyness...but it seems like it's nearly unbreakable and durable (drop a Maglite and you'll understand the value of durability). It's a little odd, but I suspect if this thing were a foot long the price would seem to be in line, but it's far more useful in the small form.

Honest reviews on Energizer Night Strike LED Light with Swivel Head

Energizer does it again! This light has great functionality and is energy efficient. When I look for a piece of gear it must have a common power source, a rugged body, and a way to attach to other gear for transport. This has all of those in one package. I would recommend to anybody looking for a quality light source.

I have already written a review for the 12" version of this 16" light. I refer you to that review. I was not able to get both sizes from the same distributor so they arrived at different times which was somewhat annoying and delayed my installation of the lights. Please note that the bottom of these lights may not hang perfectly plumb without slightly tilting the base. Nice appearance though.

This lamp is very solidly made, handsome with very clan lins. On-line ordering was easy and quick. The product came befoe it was expeced AND was very well packed. Receiving no damage, even when the delivery person dropped it at the front door. I just love it! However, it seems I ordered the correct style but the incorrect length. I was supposed to get the 41" with 5 lamps, not the 35" with 4 lamps. I will let my wife order the next time.
