I can't return this, because it was already installed on my outside wall... but it's NOT a frosted glob, you can see the spiral CFL right through the glass. the light is good looking, but has a motion sensor that cannot be turned off, so it's kind of useless as a normal outside light. Not happy with it, and will just replace it later.

This is a fun and well made lantern. I used 2 of them over the island in my kitchen and they add a lot of interest. They are relatively cheap cost-wise, but have the appearance of a quality light fixture.

The only problem was that 2 broke en-route and needed to be replaced (which Amazon took care of at no extra cost to me).

I got this for my son who is decorating his office in a "Dallas" theme, since he grew up there. He really likes the lamp and thinks it has some nice qualities about it. I bought this lamp for my husband and he put it on his nightstand. It looks fantastic! I'm not sure what it is about it, but the light coming through the glass looks really cool. It makes the lamp on my side look very plain and dull and I've asked for a matching lamp as a gift for my birthday or Christmas. While our bedroom isn't done in the Cowboys theme, we have some blue in our bedspread and it blends in nicely. This lamp does not look or feel cheaply made and it seems to be high quality. The on/off switch is on the cord which makes for easy access from the bed. This is a great gift for any Dallas Cowboys fan!

This lamp is very pretty, however I have a couple complaints.

1. In the picture, it looks like the shelves are wooden. They are not, they are glass. We specifically ordered it from Amazon vs somewhere else because of the wooden vs glass shelves. Now that I have it put together, though, the glass doesn't bother me much. I have the matching table lamp, so I don't want to just return it and get one that isn't part of the set.

2. It came in several pieces and when putting the four sides of the shade together, I could never get it just right. Ultimately, some of the backing to the shade started to peel off. Also, the nylon strings (which I like) are no longer taught due to how it all fits together. This bothers me, though I am a bit O.C.D. so I am still trying to figure out if I should keep it (I probably will not worth the hassle of returning it and it matches the table lamp).

Overall, it is pretty. I just wish it looked like it did in the picture and wasn't difficult to put the shade together (and it looked right).

Oh yeah, the person who posted about getting it from Target it is not the same lamp (at least the one currently available). The lamp does not have strings for the shade (either paper or fabric) and it is not the same brand. That being said, I probably would have gotten the one from Target if I liked the Target version of the table lamp.

We have had two of these lamps for a couple of years.

The lamp is easy to assemble and it looks good. It really is rather light so, while it is very easy to carry, it also wobbles and moves easily if knocked.

The top above the bulb is open; there is plenty of room for various lighting solutions so long as they remain within the wattage.

Unfortunately, after a year after we bought them, both our lamps have had the "satin steel ball accented on / off pull chain switch" fail: it sticks, and no longer toggles. If one twists the base around a bit they momentarily free themselves, but with both our lamps we now just turn them on or off using the outlet, which certainly isn't as convenient. It is a very irritating design flaw in what is otherwise a nice lamp.

ORIGINAL REVIEW

I've been using this Hunter fan for a year now and we love it. It was not too hard to install myself (I purchased it as a replacement fan.), it looks great, and the fan is extremely quiet. The 52 inch size is for larger rooms and provides strong air movement. My wife and I can feel the air movement even though we have 9' ceilings. This is my fifth Hunter fan and in my opinion, Hunter fans have the best balance of any fan on the market. I would like to add that all five of my Hunter ceiling fans are still in service and I am shopping for a sixth to replace another brand of fan.

Now for the story on the lights. The fan comes with four 40W incandescent candelabra bulbs. Since buying this fan, I've learned that Federal law (Energy Policy Act of 2005 ) requires ceiling fans to have a 190W limiter on the lights installed. That's why you will get dimming when you exceed the total watt limit (190W) with incandescent bulbs. When you use florescent bulbs, there is a problem reaching the minimum resistance required for the florescent bulbs and that causes the bulbs flicker. If you use the four 40W incandescent bulbs provided, the lights works great with no flicker. If you want to use florescent bulbs, I found that using one incandescent bulb with three 13W (60W equivalent) florescent bulbs stopped the flicker. (I believe the incandescent bulb is acting like a ballast for the CFLs by increasing the resistance above the minimum.) Whatever the reason, it works for me.

My wife and I love this fan. As I mentioned, it is quiet and the air blowing on us makes us feel cooler and I don't have to run my A/C as much. I recommend this fan, as long as you understand the full situation with the lights.

I am currently remodeling our kitchen and I wanted the metal on the fan to coordinate with the drawer pulls on my cabinets. This matched nicely and I'm very pleased with the look. I was also looking for a lot of light and I was glad that this one had the 4 lights that were not encased in a globe. Great fan and works perfectly!

After looking at many, many fans with light kits, I settled on this one because it had FOUR lights instead of the more popular three light kits. In the past, we have been able to increase wattage of bulbs/lamps above the "recommended maximum wattage." Thinking that 40w would be too dim for the sewing room in which the fan/light was to be placed, I figured we'd simply use 60w bulbs. However, this is not possible. The light kit either flickers OR dims (depending on the type of bulb used) after only a few seconds. So...if you order this fan/light, make sure you only need "mood lighting" not actual task lighting.

I would not have ordered this if I had known.

THE FAN WAS PUT INTO SERVICE IN EARLY AUGUST OF 2011. IT HAS BEEN RUNNING WELL UNTIL NOW, OCTOBER 26, 2011.

I ordered two of these fans for smaller 10x10 bedrooms. These are an excellent size for those rooms. The fans look very attractive, and so far are dead quite seems very like Hunter. And on high, these move a lot of air. However, the step down to medium speed is slower than I expected, but no too bad. Installation instructions were clear, and hardware was all good. But, the 3 inch wood screws to mount the plate to the outlet box are not great using soft brass screws on the heads is a BAD idea as they tend to strip. If you are installing these, and even if you pre-drill using the 9/64" recommended bit, use a hand tool only and not a drill. If these start to strip, take them out right away it will NOT get better! I ended up using 3" screws designed for wood decking, and they worked great. Rest of screws and hardware are all good. The ceiling cap that goes around the cone seems to fit loosely, but doesn't move or vibrate during use, so not a big deal for me. Depending on your ceiling height, the pull chains may be too short. (You may also want to cut the wires coming from the fan to a shorter length if you are not using a very long down rod, but only if you're comfortable doing so.)

These hunter fans have a very common part for the light system. lasts very short amount of time then lights go out. Don't worry though there is a lifetime warranty right... wrong when you call for warranty the hunter people tell you no you have a one year parts warranty. the lifetime warranty is only on the fan motor. but they can sell you the whole light assembly (cant just sell bad part, parts not sold sep.) for almost $40 with $8~ shipping. you can almost buy another fan assembly for that. this is terrible customer service. I told them this had a lifetime warranty and I want the part replaced... they told me that I should have read the fine print for the warranty!!!! spend the extra money on a better unit! or you will regret it later! I only had this a year and a few months! just google about light problems with hunter fans and see for your self!

Pretty and sturdy, but seriously diffuses light. A 40W incandescent (box says 45W max.) hardly illuminates anything, and gets a bit warm. Works best with a 100W-equivalent compact fluorescent, unless you are in serious need of some serious mood lighting. :D Compact fluorescents also stay cool.

I had never heard of "dark sky" descriptions before but I liked the style of this lamp. I have two of them outside beside both sliding doors to the deck. They give just the right amount of light on the deck and they don't shine in your eyes which is helpful since our deck is on two levels. Now that I know the meaning of "dark sky" these lights work great in that respect. The light shines where you need it and creates a very pleasing look to our deck. After two years they still look like the day we bought them.
