The product is a very attractive design, well made, accurately described in the Amazon advertisment and ideal to hang as a pendant fitting in a stairwell or from the centre of a roof in a medium sized room. We ordered three of the fittings for a stairwell and two more for a room above overlooking the harbour. They are easy to install,work very well and lend a nautical ambience to the decor.

We live in New Zealand and I was very impressed that all three lamps were delivered within ten days of ordering; the first arrived within seven days.The packaging was adequate but I was disappointed to find that when the boxes were opened the white interior surface of two of the lamps was chipped and scratched. Not badly, and not to a degree that would justify returning the product, but enough to take the edge off a reasonably priced and well designed interior fitting.It seems the damage could only have happened prior to packaging.Not much can be done about this but it did take the gloss off what would otherwise have been a very satisfying experience.

I made a mistake in ordering this light, because it is too big hanging above my sink. I liked the design, but it is not made out of real heavy material. I thought it was a little thin for what I paid.

This light comes with a newly designed bulb with a very specific base, so you can only use the one type of bulb. It is CFL so it is supposed to last for thousands of hours, but barely lasts a month. I am on my second bulb in less than 2 months & it burned out last night. At $8.00 per bulb, I can no longer afford to keep this light, so, that's it for this fixture. What a waste of money for a highly inferior product. Even the home improvement store told me that the bulb in this fixture is the worst bulb ever made!

I purchased this light in brushed nickel for my vaulted-ceiling foyer. It arrived on time and is even prettier in person than in the picture. I was hoping they were going to look as good in person as they did online--AND they DID!! I really liked the fixture in photos. It arrived months ago and I have been waiting for a friend to install it, which he did yesterday. Two problems, first, the flat mounting plate and cross arm are not level to each other. So, I had to choose whether I wanted the base level OR the cross bar level. (And my husband and I can't agree which, to boot,lol) Then, the shades seem to be slightly different, just enough to make you wonder if you're losing it. I tried a couple of bulb combinations, but the result was the same. Had I noticed the problems before it was installed, I would have exchanged it for another, in the hopes of getting a better one, but it's too late now. If it hadn't been for these 2 issues, I would have ranked it 5 stars.

This lamp is well made and nicely finished. It comes assembled except for attaching the shade, which has a ring that friction-fits around the socket. This arrangement works okay but is not very sturdy, so I would not put this lamp where it can get jostled. Shade is a light tan fabric. Each of the two fluted columns is surmounted by a small brass or maybe brass-plated sphere. The spheres are good-looking details, but are hidden by the shade. Cord is quite long.

Contrary to the manufacturer's Product Description, this lamp has only one socket. Because the lamp is so diminutive--only about a foot high--a standard A19 light bulb looks large in it, though it does fit. So I personally prefer to use a smaller A15 "decorative" bulb instead. Maximum wattage as stated on the socket is 60.

The published description seems to imply--it does not state outright--that the lamp is manufactured in the "northern Vermont hills," thus making the product sound more attractive. In actuality, while the company is in Vermont, the lamp itself is made in China. This in my view does not downgrade the product, but could be helpful information for someone who is looking for a domestically manufactured lamp.

I bought these lights for our motorhome awning. We sometimes get back to the motorhome after dark and it's difficult to cook on the barbecue grill. I put 60 watt bulbs in each light and there is more than enough light. In fact, I am going to change some of the lights to 40 watt because you can see our motorhome from way down the road due to the lights being so bright. The lights seem to be very sturdy plastic, the cord is very long and stretchy. Amazon had a great price. They definitely light up our camp site. And they look great. During the holidays, I'm going toput different color lights in them also to decorate. Highly recommend them. We had tried so many other less expensive light strings but they never provided enough light. This string does the trick!

These lights are very good quality and could handle the wattage of full bulbs if you need to. But what I recommend is using the colored fluorescent bulbs. I tailgate and I bought these lights to use with two specific colors of 13 watt fluorescent bulbs. Here's what I think:

1) The hooks work great for me. I actually run a rope across my electric awning and use these across the entire 20 feet. I have to hook one to each side to get the stretch with the coiled cable.

2) Fluorescent light bulbs fit great and if you pick colored ones, you can set this up for any mood you'd like. You can also pick team colors and really support tailgating without spending extra money for "branded" bulbs.

3) Putting 13 watt bulbs in will save you tons of money over 6x60 watt bulbs. They may be a little more expensive at first, but over the long run the savings will pay off

4) The housing is high quality, and while the price is steep, its worth it.

I recommend buying these lights, and getting a nice cheap duffle bag to store them in.

The lights work great. They are made very sturdy and have plenty of cord between the lights and also at the plug in end. The plastic bulbs are made of thick plastic not the thin stuff. I have two suggestions: one you may consider using the smallest wattage bulbs we did (20 watts each) and you can still see us throughout the whole campground and my other recommendation is to use 2 straps one on each side of the bulb to hang them otherwise they hang cockeyed.

This lamp looks great! It is well made and a little heavy, but that is a good thing. I would recommend this product with one draw back for me. I wish it was about 2 inches taller so it would light my writing area better. I am not able to move the lamp to another location since my desk area is small. Brighter bulbs would help but that is not an option. This is the right size for a desk and is high quality so I would still recommend it.

Buy GE 99655 - GE228MVPS-A T5 Fluorescent Ballast

This two lamp T5 ballast from GE seems to have a good balance of features: rapid start (0.9), decent ballast factor (0.95), parallel lamp operation, anti-striation. Instead of two lamps, this ballast can also operate a single lamp at reduced efficiency. Single lamp operation is a common failure mode for two lamp fluorescent lights.

This ballast will drive, at varying degrees of efficiency F35, F28, F21, and F14 lamps. As a general word of advice, if you want the longer F35 lamps, you may have to special order them. My local big home improvement retail warehouse does not stock F35 lamps.

Besides this General Electric 99655 GE228MVPS-A program start ballast for frequently switched applications, I also took a close look at the Sylvania 49180 QTP 2x28T5/UNV PSN NL ballast, which seems to be the leading competitor. Truth be told, comparing fluorescent light ballasts is tedious work, and I couldn't be bothered, I flipped a coin and went with the GE ballast for a few dollars more, suspecting they were more energy efficient. The one obvious thing that appealed to me about the Sylvania model is that it is available in a leadless wire trap version (49181), so you can buy 18 gauge wire separately and cut the conductors to the ideal length for your installation. The Sylvania ballast also has a longer, narrower, flatter form factor than the GE ballast.

The two manufacturers make it difficult to compare the two ballasts side by side. GE seems to emphasize their ballast's performance with F35 bulbs, while Sylvania seems to emphasize their ballast's performance with F28 bulbs. I'm satisfied with the GE ballasts, I bought. I suspect the competing Sylvania ballast would be good too.

I'm not a child afraid of the night... I'm actually a grown man. This thing is retro/scifi and looks great if you're into that sort of thing. I have a very modern and utilitarian style home and this piece fits in. I'm not sure where it will end up or how I'll use it, but it's a keeper.

Placed on the floor in the corner of a room, the light projects nicely on the wall and can really accent a dark room. Remove the glow-in-the-dark balls and this light is even brighter and with all the lights off can produce enough light to see and navigate in my 12'x15' room without your eyes having to adjust.

The light and colors are obtained are from LEDs. Many of the various hues have an almost lazer-light glow that can't be achieved by any standard or fluorescent light bulbs. The light emitted is from a number of colored LEDs under the stem the balls sit in. I've had it on ever since I received it and it's always cool to the touch, so it's definitely child-safe.

The balls are made of what appears to be typical glow-in-the-dark plastic and are about the size of a ripe plum or one of those stress relief squeeze balls. These balls glow decently, however the LEDs don't output that much light so the balls will never be 'fully charged'. They're easily visible in the dark though, and even visible in a poorly-lit room.

This unit can produce a mostly white-bluish/white light if you set it manually. If you set it to automatically change colors, the white is the only color that it will not cycle through. The sliding switch on the base provides quite a range of color choices. The slider is a little finicky... sometimes it's easy to pass a particular color, but that's not really a big deal as there are so many cool colors that radiate intensely.

The only real negative is the sliding switch that controls the hue feels really cheap. The slider is recessed into the base quite well, but feels fragile. Otherwise, the lamp looks and feels very durable and the overall quality is excellent.

I wish this had adjustable speeds for color rotation and a remote. What's really missing in this lamp is a mode to sync to music. That would be amazing. I'm surprised that something this decorative, useful and well made could have been marketed differently and sold for more money.

Wow, that's a lot more than I expected to write for some silly child's night light... lol

This item is neat, but just know that the stand projects the colors of light to the balls. Once the balls are removed from the stand they glow in the dark green, not the your kids favorite color.

Updated: I contacted Boon and they sent us a brand new lamp for free that has worked perfectly! My kiddo loves the color change function, and I love the glowing balls that give off just enough light to keep kiddo's room "monster free" and not too much to keep him awake at night.

I really like this light and was excited when it arrived. The colors are vibrant and the glowing balls are awesome. I've had it for about two months now and it's suddenly stopped working. I can't get it to turn on at all. I've written to Boon about it but haven't heard back. If they reply with a satisfactory resolution, I'll probably remove this review since it really is a great light, but I just wanted to warn other folks about my issue.

well it looks nice and is one of the nicer night lights. but then its the most expensive one.

I had assumed the balls to be a little higher quality. they look much better on the amazon images than in reality. they are just the standard glow in the dark plastic. while the balls glow for 30 minutes, the base has to be turned on / off manually. this is a bummer as your kid will fall asleep and the light will be pretty bright all night long.

i was hoping that the base would shut down itself as well...

somewhat mixed whether we will keep it.

update: so it broke after 3 months. one of the bulbs has the wrong color and doesnt change anymore with the other two. it still does its job, but for this premium, they need to get QA up. hope someone starts making a really cool high quality night light sometime soon, maybe ill check kickstarter

This item looked so awesome and had great reviews I was stoked to find out my son received it has a christmas present from his grandpa.

When the box arrived I was shocked at its light weight. Although this may sound nice to some, what it meant to me was, it is made of cheap plastic. All of it.

For the first 30 minutes or so the balls only glo in one tiny spot. It does state it takes 30 minutes but what this means is...You need to start it long before your child goes to bed to be able to turn it off and have the balls still glo somewhat bright.

...Ok Still good at this point and will deal with the things above... but then...

One leg stopped working. As I had read on many other reviews, happened to others. I wrote to Boon and to my surprised received a kind response from Jennifer the very next day. They wanted a picture of the light. No problem at all, I provide. They wrote back told me to cut the power cord and write a number on the base, take a picture of it, send it back and they will send the replacement. My issue with this, it is a $70 item with 75% working parts and you want me to just throw it away. If the material being used means that little why are you charging so much?

I think it is wasteful and poor practice. I rather keep the cord attached ship it back to be recycled and reused if possible, then to just trash it. I still have the Glo light with one ball not working and 30 days to decide what I want to do with it. I am bummed.

My other suggestion to Boon besides to not just throw things away, is to lower the price. Buyer beware to me... the quality is not worth the price you are paying.

Before buying this lamp definitely take note of the measurements. I bought it for my nightstand and it is a little small. The first lamp I received had permanent creases in the shade and a scratch on the lamp due to poor packaging. I was able to ship it back for free and receive a new lamp that was packaged better. If I had to do things over again I would have purchased a lamp from HomeGoods instead. You can buy a nice nightstand size lamp there for $30-$40. The shade, which is where they obviously cut corners, seems a little too big in proportion to the size of the lamp. The lamp and shade are different shades of white which also looks a bit odd. I also hate the fact that the shade is held in place by the light bulb instead of having a harp and finial. As a result it is not very secure and will move around when turning the light on and off. If I had seen this lamp in person I wouldn't have paid more than $20 for it. Overall a cute lamp, if you are willing to spend more money to replace the shade.

I really like these lamps. They take a 60 watt bulb. There is no dimming, but it's not a problem. The quality is very nice. They're small great for the bedside. I was surprised that I could see the light bulb when I'm standing next to the Bedside table. Because of the lamp shade shape it's real easy to look right down into it and see the bulb. I opted for flame shaped 60 watt bulbs, b/c their more attractive when you see them...

The lamp shades were stacked in the box they came in. They must have been pushed very tightly together during shipping. The bottom one had a scalloped crease all the way around the bottom edge. I emailed 43rd Street Lighting and they replied right away. They immediately sent a replacement lamp shade, and they didn't ask me to send the damaged one back which was really nice for me. It's a pain to have to bother with that.

The quality of this lamp was disappointing. The bowl of the lamp is made of what looks like cheap grade plastic. The pole section of the lamp came in three or four parts. One of those parts had a defective thread, so that the section which was supposed to be screwed on top of that one would not screw in straight or even all the way. Overall, the product felt like it was too cheaply made for the price. I returned this product and received a refund.

the product works well and is fairly decently priced...it really does everything it's supposed to and i have no real complaints for the price.

i just have a few things for potential buyers to note, as i thought it might help: 1.) it says it requires two 150 watt bulbs...i don't know if you can use less, but as a result of 300 watts of lighting, at full brightness this thing is practically blinding! 2.) on mine, for some reason, the brighter i have it the more noise it makes...yes, it makes noise...just a steady buzz/hum...but honestly, to most people it may not even be noticable, and perhaps mine is just a slight defect. 3.) note that the white part is plastic, not glass.

It looks good and with two 150 watt bulbs it is BRIGHT. However, per other users, the control (especially with the remote) is annoying: do I tap once, twice, hold down the button??? Dunno. Anyhow, my remote stopped working after a year (no, not even with new batteries) so I am trying to figure out how to get a replacement I recently e-mailed the company. The remote is useful as I keep this lamp behind my couch in the corner of the room and I do not have an easy way to get it on a switch in my apartment.

From what I have been able to find, this is the only torchiere lamp available anywhere with the built in dimmer and on-off controlled by a remote. It is also the only lamp period where I have seen that particular type of dimmer remote built in. I have one in the living room and am always getting comments on how well it looks and works. It certainly is not a super heavy duty lamp but I find the quality more than adequate for where I have it.

I also purchased one for the bedroom. Due to mobility issues and sometimes being confined to the bed, I find this remote controlled lamp to be perfect for me. If you have any friends or family that have difficulty moving around, you could not go wrong purchasing this as a gift for them.
