The fan itself is plain, but overall it is fine. However, the light fixture in this fan is terrible. It requires a specific type of CFL with a bi-pin base rather than a typical screw in base used by most light bulbs (here is an example ). Perhaps if the bulb itself was better it wouldn't be such a big deal, but it gives off a harsh, bluish white light that washes out the room. Since it has the unique bi-pin connector, you can't just replace the bulb with a better or regular incandescent bulb. The bulb also makes an annoying humming sound that makes me feel like I'm in a depressing office building. To boot, I bought a specific switch to use when installing this fan that has a dimmer switch for the light, but since this is a CFL, it can't be dimmed. I am probably going to completely dismantle the whole thing and ship it back because I am really disappointed in this fan. If I had seen anywhere in the fan description some information on this light fixture with this fan, there is no way I would have bought it in the first place.

5 Minute Fan is a huge misnomer It takes a while to install a ceiling fan properly, even if (as in my case) everything has been pre-wired and prepped. It takes 5 minutes just to get the package open and sort out all the hardware. Wiring and mounting the fan is probably another 20-30 min depending on individual circumstances. But I digress, the fan itself is nice, I have two older Hunter ceiling fans that are nearly identical. The older fans are still whisper quiet, as are the new ones, so I have confidence in the quality of Hunter's products.

The one "gotcha" on this item that the lighting fixture only supports fluorescent light bulbs. Had this been mentioned ANYWHERE on Amazon's product description I would have searched for a similar fan that uses traditional incandescent light bulbs. Thankfully I don't often use the lights on the fan units, so it isn't a major upset, but it should definitely be called out somewhere.

There's no way this fan was a simple thing to put on and no way its close to five minutes(though I didn't expect it to really be 5 minutes of course). The instructions were confusing and there was this extra piece which we couldn't figure out if we needed it or not. Also, once its on if you have to make any adjustments it is super hard. Things were locked in place and almost impossible to remove and then the top of the base has holes so when we unscrewed one of the screws of the top canopy thing, it fell inside the middle base through the hole and is still there as it was impossible to take out unless we took the whole thing off. In the end I'm sure its not more difficult to put than another fan but the point is don't advertise this as a simpler to install fan and then it turns out to be a headache. Basically I'm giving it low scores because of the false advertisement otherwise it looks good and functions well.

This fan is really a NICE classy looking fan. It has a nice wood/and pewter combo. It works wonderful, it's quiet, it was fairly easy for my husband to install.

This line of Laura Ashley lamps--I think its called "Charlotte" is very pretty. I have 4 of them in my house. I bought them cheaply, through Warehouse Deals, but you wouldn't know it. The four I kept are one or two sizes smaller. This one is quite massive. It and its siblings are lovely. They have a faux silk fabric (which looks good) that is shirred in diagonal spirals, swirls around its contour. The colors I have seen are black, vanilla, cream, and red--the red is a bluish dull red, not a bright red. I would not hesitate to buy these shades again, but look for discounted ones in warehouse deals.

Two out of three floodlights that I purchased work as intended. However, they do not seem to have a light sensor, so they turn on both during the day and at night. The intensity output is decent, but the "pure white" color can be annoying if used for an extended period of time.

Instead of the built-in LED, an alternative "green" option is to get a regular, much cheaper floodlight, and install PAR30 LED bulbs. Same energy consumption, more features (see above), and if anything goes wrong with the bulb, it is easy to replace.

Before I bought these 4, I already had installed one of these lights at my home so I already knew the quality of the light is outstanding. You cant go wrong with this LED. The one at my house has been up for about 6 months and provides great light. Great seller..would buy from again."

UPDATE 5/29/12. Of the 4 I bought, two are dead. One never worked and the other one stopped working within 2 weeks. Motion light would work but LED's were barely visible, like they were burnt out. Sent back to seller, he received package on 5/21/12 and I have not received an email or refund??

Bought a LED setup at Costco for $60 then went back for another after trying it out. Gives lots of light output for LED's, but like alot of things at Costco, once you need another, they're never there. Searched for months until I gave in and paid the $100 for this light. Then no sooner did it show up that Costco is now re-stocking the same Lithonia LED for $60 again. I'm a retired electrician, so take it from me, you want LED technology, forget the Par 40 floodlights or fragile halogen lamp types, go LED whenever possible to save both electricity and energy re-lamping later on.

It is true the light does come with a tail for the bottom, which is not pictured here. The Tail is optional. They really should provide a picture for both options. I purchased two of these for my location here in Fairbanks, Alaska. During the summer it does not get dark at night so I have not had a good chance to evaluate how well it works until now. The sun sets about 9:35 pm at this time of year and the lights work well. Easy to install. The light has three sensitivity settings: High, Medium, Low. I just set mine to High. Then the time option has test, 2 minutes, 6 minutes, dusk to dawn. The test option lets you see if the light is working during daylight hours. The dusk to dawn option will turn the light on when it gets dark enough in the evening and leave the light on all night until it gets light enough for it to go off.

My purchase of the Seagull Xenon under cabinet light is our fourth in 6 years. Seagull continuously changes its design so holes don't line up; wires that were on the right side of the light fixture are now on the left and have to be elongated by splicing to reach the wires through the wall, and, they just don't last. My light fixture this time came in its display box, and not packaged properly for shipping. As a result, the glass difuser was broken along with all of the light bulbs. It took them three weeks to get me all the replacement parts. It is up and working, and for that I am grateful, but I was not impressed, and I do not look forward to replacing this light yet again in 18 months or so...

The lamp looks good. Works great. Sturdy. Good price. I recommend a 40 watt bulb. Easy to put together. The lamp was packaged by the son of Satan. Do not open it inside your house. The middle of the Sahara Desert would be a good choice. It was packed with a solid styrofoam material that falls apart into tiny pieces when you touch it. The stuff sticks to everyting in sight. I spent over an hour with a vacuum cleaner getting the stuff off of me, the lamp and everything within a 10 foot radius. My garbage collector now looks at me with disgust and loathing.

I received the two Tiffany-style pole lamps today, which I ordered. They are described as having a "glass" shade, made of 200+ pieces of "stained glass," and so on. However, this is absolutely not glass. There is no glass whatsoever in this item. The shade is made of 100% plastic. I worked with stained glass for many years, cutting stained glass, fitting the pieces in lead came, and soldering the assembly. I am amazed that the description is not accurate and honest: This is made of a plastic, or plastic-like material and it is not worth the price that is quoted. The description is deceptive and passes off a cheap plastic item as one that is made of real glass. If this were glass, it would be far heavier than it is. If this were actually glass, I would give it 5 stars.

As stated in other reviews, the shade is NOT made from cut glass, but plastic. It isn't surprising considering the cost of a little over one hundred dollars, but it is disappointing. Additionally there are other quality issues; the whole lamp leans a bit and the wings on the dragonflies aren't all straight. I am keeping it because it does serve the purpose of lighting up the back of the living room while being colorful and because my carpeting bulge next to the wall counteracts the leaning. As long as you don't look at it too closely it's acceptable.

No real complaints at all. I bought this versus the clamp on type because I can use it anywhere I can find room to set the base. The base is nice and heavy and has the footprint of about an 8 ½ x 11 inch piece of paper. I've had clamp on types and they are a bit of a pain to keep fastened tightly to the table or counter in my experience. I'll be more prone to drag this from location to location because I don't have to fuss with the clamp.

Pros:

* Nice heavy base

* Arm stays where you place it

* Decent real glass lens

* Low temperature does not heat up my small room

* No 60 Hz hum at all perhaps solid state devices with no transformer

* Nice wire management... internal to the metal arm tubing

Cons:

Great lamp!I had been using an Ott magnifying lamp, but was having a problem with the small usable magnification area.The Ott lamp has only 1 light bulb at the rear of the magnifier. The professional quality desk magnifier lamp has a circular bulb which provides great lighting to the entire magnifier area. Circular bulb=no shadows cast by your hands or tools. The base is nice and heavy,the arm is adjustable and stays where you put it. My only complaint is that the feet on the base are metal and not smoothly finished. They will scratch your work surface if you move the lamp without picking it up. I put mine on a rubber mat-problem solved.

I bought this lamp in order to see the small electronic components for soldering onto PC boards. My work area is actually more of an office desk with a glass top.

This lamp arrived in an Amazon box containing only another box and some packing paper. Just gotta have that Amazon logo showing! The lamp was packed well in the inner box, wrapped and in molded styrofoam, in 2 pieces: base and arm/lamp.

The base measures 8x12", and is quite heavy at 8 pounds, centered more near the front than the back. The bottom is black plastic with exposed round-head screws. The top and sides are made of white plastic, molded to form feet on the corners and middle of the sides so that the screws don't damage the surface on which the lamp sits. However, this means there is a very small surface area that the lamp actually sits on, so on a glass-topped desk it slides quite easily. Also, in a rough environment it might be easy to damage the thin plastic feet (think of a vertical sheet of plastic more than real feet), which would send the lamp rocking with no easy fix (other than to sand the other feet and perhaps affix a base covering of rubber or fabric). Since I don't expect to be moving the lamp much, nor is my environment rough, it should work fine for me. However I will have to place a rubber mat underneath to keep it from slipping.

The reticulating arm is made of metal and works well. One thing that I didn't like initially is that the rotation of the bottom joint near the base is of limited movement. However, if the lamp is placed near a wall this limit keeps the arm from digging into your wall, and the arm has a large movement area still, so it doesn't seem to affect performance. The arm has a spike that sits in the base, and a plastic-knobbed screw-in pin secures the spike in place from the rear (this is part of the base). The arm has approximately 30º of swing from the base.

The lamp is mounted to the base on a rotating ring, giving the lamp the ability to rotate into the desired position. The ring assembly is pressure-mounted to the arm, with a knob to adjust the pressure (with detents) so that the lamp can be vertically angled. The lamp is easily positioned. A black rocker mounted on the top of the lamp assembly is used to switch power.

The lens cover has a molded plastic stop to keep it from falling down while you're working. It definitely leaves a small gap when covering the lens, so expect a small ring of dust around the edge of the lens. I'm sure I'll be cleaning it often enough because of solder splatter that it won't affect performance for me.

The magnification is great for older eyes that don't see small details well, like the printing on surface-mount components. I measured the focal distance to be right up against the glass to about 4.5" below it. If you'll need to have your work farther away than that, this lamp may not work for you. The distortion quickly gets painful to look at with work beyond 5". However, your eye position can be at any comfortable distance and still see well; the limit is for the under side.

The lamp is a circular fluorescent, and it is nicely covered in a clear acrylic plastic, which for soldering work means I won't have any solder splattered on the bulb itself, and is easily washable.

Finally, the cord is long enough to reach from mid-desk above left, around the back of my desk, and back to the front-right floor area underneath where I currently have my power strip (we electronic workers are always un/plugging things).

Although I don't like fluorescent lights (they give me headaches when shone directly into my line of sight), the fact that the light is shining away means I can comfortably work with this lamp. I may look for an Ott-light bulb or similar to give full spectrum, but overall I'm going to be very pleased with this purchase.

The only things I think could be better are a factory-installed rubber base cover to prevent slippage and scratches, and of course a lower price (which pretty much applies to everything).

I purchased the 8606D-D 5D desk magnifier lamp for my work bench. Upon installation on my work bench, I connected AC power and proceeded to examine the product. My test reviled the following:

The lamp has an arm with two adjustable limbs. The lower limb, which mounts into the 8"x12", 8 base, is almost fixed, moving only about ~ -30 deg from vertical [abt. -1.0"]. The lower limb however is NOT secure, even though there is a screw on the back side to tighten. The adjustment pin, after about 5 turns will tighten almost hitting the base. It NEVER prevents the pin from leaving the base. The almost fixed lower limb greatly reduced the flexibility of the lamp. It basally rotates about a point with the reach of 23" maximum.

The upper limb moves over a wider range ~ +30deg/-26deg. from horizontal. The lamp is top heavy so, you might have to add additional weight if you plan to operate it at maximum reach.

The base will scar a surface when moved thus, you will have to visit you local hardware store and purchase four ½" feet to prevent movement and scaring it surface.

The fluorescent FCL-22w lamp is bright and shadow free. You will have a problem finding a replacement the lamp. The installed lamp is made by Osram® and cost almost twice the price as other common circular blubs. The lens cover has a molded plastic stop to keep it from falling down while you're working. I now feel it's a gimmick and has no practical use.

The instructions, I use the term loosely, are a joke and appear to have been written by a 4 year old.

The lens is very clear and bright. Not sure it is worth the money! Purchase at your own discretion!

I do a lot of wood carving and was finding that at times (e.g. chip carving) my old eyes just didn't see as well as I would like. I researched several self standing magnifyers and decided on this one. It arrived in great shape and I've been very happy with the build quality. I bought it for the glass but am suprised how much I enjoy the light. A lot of the time, you have to worry about shadows when carving, but with the light from above, I don't have to turn on the overhead lights at all! Glass quality and focus distance are good. The fixture remains where I put it and the base is well weighted and nicely shaped. I use the base to hold my knives. I highly recommend the product.

I received two sets (12 total) this Summer and have been using them several weeks now. They look great lit up at night. They are just what I expected for the price. Not sure they are heavy duty enough to keep out all winter so I will bring them in. The ones that get the most sun, stay lit all night long.

I was skeptical after reading some bad reviews, but am very glad I got these. The amazing thing is that all 12 burn all night. I got them from The Awesome Shop which advertised the 2010 version with two LED lights, and that's what arrived. The light is bluish rather than yellowish. Yes, the lens is plastic so don't drive them into the ground with the lens attached. Drive the stainless steel base into the ground, then attach the top part and you won't break the plastic lens. I have gotten up at 5:30am and they are all still burning just like right after dark. But, it's only been one week. I put mine out in the sun to charge for a couple of days before installing them. One important thing...If they were shipped in the "off" position, you have to open up the top and turn the switch to the "on" position before they will light up. One didn't work and I unscrewed the cap and found out the battery was loose. Now all 12 work perfectly all night. Not a lot of light, but a pretty pleasant blue glow.

ADDENDUM: After I've had these a few months I have to reduce the rating from 5 to 4 because they don't stay lit nearly as long now than they did when I wrote the above review. They had a great start, but seemed to loose their ability to stay lit for more than a few hours within a few months.

Though I was very pleased with the price and delivery time, the product itself proved to be less than I'd hoped. I guess it's another illustration of "you get what you pay for." The "stainless steel" is very satisfactory, the light quality and solar charging are top shelf. The plastic lens came as a great disappointment; though I bear responsibility for the breakage, I had the second one I installed fail catastrophically (lens collapsed under the pressure of pushing anchor stake into the soil), and though I have been able to glue the pieces back together, this is not how I wanted to start my experience with the item. I will be contacting the manufacturer in the interest of procuring a replacement lens, though it strikes me as unlikely...........

I bought 2 of these to replace 2 path lights I had on posts on my patio. Their color is similar to the cast aluminum furniture I have. I mounted them at a slight angle. I have had many compliments on them. They are very well made. They are all metal and have no plastic parts that can become brittle in time. They came with plenty of wire to make installation easy.
