When we moved into our house in 1991, I asked my architect how I was supposed to change the recessed lights (floods) in the high ceilings. He told me that he would hire an electrician. I found this vac-a-bulb device in some gizmo catalogue somewhere and ordered it with two extentions. It has worked great, but now after 20 years, the vacuum has died. I was delighted to see that they are still available so that I can order a new one.

This is my second one of these bulb changers. The first one I had for about 10 years, before it gave out. I was pleased to find a new one on amazon, and use it often -it is the best type of changer I have ever used.

Well, long story short, I bought the 'dragonfly' (-12) glass only but received the '-10' glass only piece. I actually like the one I received in error so I'm going to keep it and have since installed it in my hallway and have placed another order for the dragonfly one which will be placed in my daughter's room. (I hope they send the right one this time!) : D Overall, I really like the quality of the one I did get since the online photo didn't really do the piece justice.

Update ~ I've since received the dragonfly one & I L O V E I T ~ one item to note is that it's more for show now than for light ~ this might sound obvious, but less light shines thru the colored glass than say a transparent or lighter colored glass. Regardless, I can't stop staring at it because it's so pretty & once again solid quality. : )

Nice little light, just wish that you could turn the lights to shine torwards the base. Mounted it on a wall over a display and had to make a wood plate that was sloped, so the lights would shine back on the wall some and not just straight down.

Best Deals for Fluorescent Magnifier Lamp

I had a CATALINA lamp similar to this in 1998 and it failed [due to metal fatigue WHERE THE POST TURNS AT THE DESK MOUNT] 2 times CATALINA replaced it and two times it failed. Their last replacement was a new design that lasted almost a year. After it failed, I designed a new support method that replaced their new design and lasted until 2008.

I bought this lamp on DECEMBER 9, 2009 and have used it as it came from the factory. I can see that there have been enough minor design changes so failures like what I experienced with the CATALINA can't happen.

I purchased this particular item to use in my garage workshop. Unfortunately the garage is not heated when I am not working out there. The light must be sensitive to the cold. After I turn on the heat, it is often to cold for the lamp to come on. After allowing the heat to rise, the lamp will light and works fine. I will just have to plan my work better and only require the lighted magnifier only after the furnace has done its job. Outside of the cold the magnifier works fine. Thank you for being willing to take the light in exchange for another light.

Created quite an adventure for me. First of all, thank goodness my mom is a technician and was able to splice this strip to a power source because none is provided. I did not like the power supplies I was finding on Amazon so went to an electronics store which had the perfect plug with the appropriate amps/watts. Once we got that my parents and I splice and I set up. Setting it up was easy, though some of the strip does loose it adhesiveness after applying it. Making sure the surface is clean is a must. Also I found that the areas it came loose were areas that are upside-down. But, when all was done, they look beautiful! I have received so many compliments. Visitors to my home love them and want them! I will definitely buy this product in other colors to use as cabinet under lights and for other projects. They make my snow globes look magical. I look forward to them turning on every night! They are a deep blue (a little deeper than a black light).

I have had it for 3 months. The seller delivery was fast. They should have packed it better, I had small half inch chip in the glass, but it was not visible from exterior so I proceeded to install. The pole is made of aluminum and in a couple of pieces. While the paint job appears good, the machining was not. It was bowed. I played with it and could align the two pieces so that the bow in the mast would not be as noticeable from the street. The base needs to be bolted to a surface or it will not stand up on its own, at least my bowed pole would not allow to balance. The solar panels and the 12 led lights do work. However be aware it is not as bright as a gas lamp or an electric lamp. I was a little disappointed with that. However it does stay lit through most of the night and saves money compared to the gas street lamp it replaced. It looks good and the aluminum should not rust like my previous gas lamp metal pool. I wish they had provided aluminum screws instead of metal to hold the two pieces of pole together, the screw heads started to rust and I treated them with "magic purple" de-ruster that I use for the cars. That seem to work. I made it work for me. My issues were mostly with the manufacturer.

You have to remember that this is a solar powered light. Don't expect it to light up your yard. I installed two lights on either side of my driveway for accent lighting. Even in the dead of winter the light will stay on all night if you have a sunny day. On cloudy days it will not stay lit all night. Overall I am pleased and will probably purchase more to accent my driveway.

The box arrived fairly smashed, but the item was undamaged. It's made of aluminum, painted black. Fit and finish are mediocre quality. The top of the lantern and lantern body did not fit well, due to poor machining (I can get it to attach, but it's a bother). I placed a call to the customer service line--no answer so I left a message (no return call after 1 day). There are four battery compartments but only 1 and half are used (go figure) so you only need 3 batteries (included). You can shut off the light but you have to remove the lantern lid to do that (inconvenient). This item is somewhat typical of Chinese engineering..or lack thereof. If I had seen this in person before ordering I would not have purchased. It's worth more like $40 to me.

***UPDATE*** It's been a week since I placed a call (left message) into customer service and they have not returned my call. This unit comes with a 1 year warranty, but if you cannot reach customer service, what good is that?

I've worked with solar lights before and so I had an idea of what to expect. Quality of the glass work, aluminum work and electrical work are quite good. Unit charged up first time around, came on at dusk and shut off when it was supposed to. Exactly what I expected and exactly what it should do.

I needed to buy 12 of these lights for a donation to a dog park and I wanted to make sure that they were what I needed and wanted and so I only ordered 1 light. Light was $80 from Amazon. 2 days shipping, 1 day to assemble and charge the unit, another day to test it, another day to think it through and then it was time to order the other 11 from Amazon. Price is NOW $127 each!! Holy price increase Batman!! 50% increase in 7 days. I called Amazon customer service. They were polite as always and wouldn't do anything. Thats the price (they said). We discussed price increases in 7 days. We even discussed accounting methods of pricing inventory. Nope, Thank you for your business, we always try to be fair, but thats the price! Well, now the price is down to $107 and I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about buying the other 11 units.

As far as the company that makes the product, I wrote to them asking several specific questions. One of the Building Code officials here also wrote to them asking a technical question about the product. These emails were sent to them on October 18th. As of today, neither the Building offical or I have had a response. Nothing. I wonder what would happen if I had a problem.

Summary good light, Amazon is acting like it needs every dime it can get, and I don't think the companys email is working..........

This solar lamp has a nice glow and seems to hold a charge well. We put it in a flower bed so anchoring was a little difficult, but with the use of pvc tubes in varying sizes it seems to be holding well. We are happy with it and may order another.

I had always wanted a Tiffany-style lamp and chose this one because the purple in it goes nicely with my bedroom colors. It is resin, not glass, but I don't think that takes away from how attractive it is. Maximum wattage is 60, but I use a 40 watt, which is cozier. The only thing I dislike is the fact that the on-off swtich is on the electric cord, not on the socket. I don't think the product description mentioned that.

I was extremely pleased and excited about this purchase immediately upon opening the box. The lamp is absolutely stunning. Substantial weight and exquisite crystal. I looked at a number of places and found this to be the best buy all around. Lamps Plus has an acrylic lamp similiar to this for $150 (including shipping) which is nearly double what I paid and it was only acrylic which can show scratches over time. It would certainly not be at this weight nor brilliance in the sunlight. I am very happy with this purchase. The packaging was great no problems with the lamp's condition whatsoever. Would certainly purchase additional lamps from this merchant in the future.
