This my review after only one use(update below). I own and have used many headlamps.
The good:
VERY bright(think close to daylight)
VERY easy to focus from spot all the way to flood and back(even when riding a bike)
AA batteries(can easily be bought and found anywhere inexpensively, rechargeable available, multiple uses)
sturdy construction except for read bellow.
The bad:
I'm pretty sure this is made of ABS plastic which is brittle. So if you drop it the plastic parts may snap, crack, or shatter.
The bar mount feature broke when mounting it on my bike's handlebar. One of the two threaded straps snapped off while I was still trying to mount and adjust the thing so I doubt it would ever survive being mounted on anything moving or vibrating. Thankfully worm gear/screw hose claps that you can buy at your local hardware store may be able to take the place of the thin, weak, and brittle straps. Otherwise the bar mounting system is pretty well designed. They just needed to use rubber or stainless steal straps instead of the brittle ABS plastic.
Bulky and heavy but that's the only way to get that much light and run time(battery life)
Difficult to remove the "lamp" and battery pack from the headlamp strap which is good if you're worries are about them coming off, bad if you want to be able to switch modes easily.
If and when they update the bar mount straps to something more sturdy and flexible this will get 5 stars overall.
If you only plan on using it as a headlamp then it's easily a 5 star+.
In conclusion, I think it's easily one of the best headlamps you can buy and will recommend to others and buy again.
UPDATE(8/14/2012):
I've been using two of these for several months now. I keep one in the trunk of my car at all times.
If you're buying it to use just as a head lamp and don't mind the weight or bulk, go for it, it's the best out there. If you plan on using the bar mount, forget about it. Done.

I recently bought this light because my last LED lenser LED light finally broke after heavy use in a heavy industrial environment. This light is REDICULOUS! Its by far the brightest led headlamp I've seen. The ability to widen the beam to light larger areas is fantastic, and as a focused beam, shines at a great distances. I've been at the top of a 225ft tower and shined the light on the next job site over, HOLY COW. It is a *little* confusing with all the different light functions. I keep mine on constant current with the defensive strobe, nice and simple. It also lasts longer than my old 3-AAA headlamp.

Cons
HEAVY but you honestly get used to it quickly.
If used on a hardhat, be careful going up scaffold or barrel ladders. if you look up, the battery pack can get hung up on pipes or ladder cage and yank your hardhat off.
Confusing to programit has TOO MANY light programs
People will ask if you are are trying to land aircraft or if you are going spelunking. its a larger light.
If you want the best and brightest headlamp out there, buy it. For some it will probably be overkill, due to size, but it just depends what your are using it for. Just an awesome light.

After a long time using various "cheap" lights I have just this and WOW, massive amount of light, love it.
The light literally lives on my head when I am working on cars, even in the day.
The light head has a quality lens which you focus, it can throw a beam of light a massive distance but on the flood it produces a lovely even wide flood of white light.
I normally use the light on flood with lowest power setting but just a click of button (in my pocket) and its full power and its simple to just focus the beam for retina burning spot light.
It has a separate battery pack that uses 4 AA batteries which also has the switch.
The head strap is a three way so it runs over the top of your head which means you don't need the strap as tight so good for long duration us but it means you can bump the battery pack. However, it comes with an extension cable so the battery pack lives in my pocket, this reduces the weight on my head and it's easy to switch on/off and control power.

I am a musher from AK, and it is very important that we carry a good headlight. It shines bright, clear, and the batteries last for awhile. I've tried a couple of different headlamps, and I am very happy with this one. I've recommended it to a friend of mine and he is very happy with it as well. Thanks for puttin it up for a fair price

I've put my H7r through hell with camping and hiking over the past few years. After much abuse one of the strap retainers on the battery pack broke and the wire if tugged/stretched when adorning the headstrap will turn the light on unintentionally. I decided its time for a new light so why not upgrade.
Things I like:
-Wider flood
-Brighter and still very energy efficient
-Battery health indicator to remove guesswork
-Versatile use as a bike light, pocket clip or work light
-The 3 ft remote battery pack cable for cold weather or lighter headgear
-Thicker plastic on band and detachable positive locking cables
-Blue in color (purely bias towards blue over red)
AA's (I find AA's are sometimes easier to get in some places than AAA's)
No little crazy battery retainer tabs on the battery pack making battery changes a chore
Things I dislike:
-Still a lot of plastic (though thicker on this model)
-Those SOS, defense, and blink modes(Note: im more for simplicity like the H7, though Mode 2 "easy" mode offers this simplicity quite nice.)
electronic light adjust (its slower than the H7 slider bar when picking a custom level but less likely to be bumped. I find the high to low power quick toggle suits my needs just fine however)
The clips for the battery pack and headlamp are plastic (I am concerned about their long term durability or constant removal)
The focus from flood to spot (mine is a bit stiff still so it takes a some working to adjust to spot, flood is ok though. I liked the H7 knob personally)
Power switch on the back of head instead of on lamp (a pet peeve)
Overall this light is adequately bright for outdoor needs and is built quite well. The beam has a specific cutoff and may not be # of lumens claimed as many say, but I feel this light is well equipped to handle most lighting situations whether spotting things far away or lighting up a large area nearby. If you looking for a bright and functional light then I would recommend giving it a try or checking out the PTec APEX.
