Don't let people trying to sell those "sunshine" lamps fool you. I tried one from Hammacher Schlemmer. Paid a good $40.00 more, and it was UN-USABLE. The glare on the TV and on reading material made me miserable and I had to have the light shade turned down completely to keep from blinding anyone else in the room. Check out something simple like this, instead, if you just want to be able to see to read. I've gotten lots of compliments on its looks, too.

I had bought this lamp due to not having enough space in my room for a table lamp and it definitely works well. The frosted shade protects from any glare on my television and it lights my room perfectly. The only problem with this lamp is that I had bought it with the expectation that it could dim using a 3-way bulb, however it is not capable of doing so. The product features state:# Rotary 3-way switch on torchiere and rotary switch on reading lamp
# Uses 100W Type A 3-way bulb and 40W Type A bubl Not included
However there is neither a rotary switch on the reading lamp nor an actual 3 way switch. Don't get me wrong, this lamp was worth the purchase due to the Amazon Prime eligibility and cheap price, although I wish that the feature description actually matched the product I had received.

The glass shades are beautiful and the metal work is also very nice. The only things I would change would be to give the reading light it's own switch and give the torchiere a 3-way option. It has a nice, heavy weight, decorative base. I thought the price was very reasonable, too.Honest reviews on Normande Lighting JM1-884 71-Inch 100-Watt Incandescent Torchiere
I often work late at night and needed a "mother-daughter" style torchiere that would completely light up the office when I needed, but also switch over to just a focused lamp to see my keyboard/desk when everyone else is asleep in the household. Being on a tight budget, I looked at Walmart, Lowes, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target etc. and couldn't find a nice one under $100 that I actually liked. When I saw the gorgeous swirling leaves and additional golden leaf details on the base of this lamp I was even more thrilled with my $60 purchase. The matte dark brown stand twisted easily together in minutes and is nicely weighted. The shades assembled with a twist as well. A maximum 40w bulb for the smaller lamp was already provided (the main bulb, you buy yourself, not to exceed 150w). The 3 way switch clicks 3x's to provide lighting for either the small bendable lamp, main torchiere, or both on the third click. Aside from the lamp being initially back ordered for 3.5 weeks, I'm really happy with this purchase and feel it was worth the wait.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Normande Lighting JM1-884 71-Inch 100-Watt Incandescent Torchiere
Before I bought a floor lamp I wanted a torchiere lamp with a side reading lamp that had to be CLASSY looking and STURDY.So, upon reading the reviews, I took notice that a reviewer commented that the base was sturdy and other
reviewers noted how nice it looked. However, one reviewer wrote that it was not a 3-way, not dimmable.
Well, I took the purchase plunge and decided upon this particular torchiere lamp.
When it arrived, I couldn't be more pleased about how well it was packed.
I also noticed how sturdy the base seemed to be.
It only took 15 minutes for my husband to put it together and I was very pleased
how well it looked and blended in with my decor. Yes, this lamp is CLASSY looking
and STURDY.
I take the 3-way switch to mean that the lamp switches to the upper light on, both upper
and reading light on or just the reading light on. So, technically, this lamp has
a 3-way lighting switch---just not dimmable, but anyone could purchase a plug-in dimmer
if so wanted.
There is only one feature that I would change with this lamp: the light switch would be
by the base of the reading lamp. It is somewhat of an inconvenience to get off the couch
and reach way up by the top of the pole to shut the light off/on, but it
is still worth the purchase. But because of the switch location, I rated it a 4.
A reviewer noted that the lighting was not suitable or harsh. What I did was buy LED lightbulbs,
not particularly for the lighting look, but more as a way of conserving electricity. Be forwarned
that LED bulbs are not cheap---anywhere between $5 to $40.00, depending upon the wattage and style of
the bulb. However, these bulbs do emit a warmer and brighter glow than fluorscent or the incandscent
lightbulbs.
Nevertheless, this torchiere is still a CLASSY and STURDY lamp. I just love the way the wire leaves
wrap around the glass shades.
After shopping around, I couldn't find a torchiere lamp that I liked any more than this
one and at an affordable price too. Similiar lamps have sold elsewhere for between $100-200.00--
and without the artistic wire leaf pattern around the shades.
I highly recommend this lamp.
