The design is nice, but the rest of it is junk. The bulbs are not bright enough, the bulbs are expensive and rare, and the ballast will not last more than 2 years. The ballast is almost impossible to find and once you find this unusual ballast it will cost more than a new light fixture. I highly NOT recommend this light to anyone who is looking to purchase this light fixture. It may look nice now but you will surely be frustrated in a few years. There are 20+ similar review problems with other people who have bought this light at LOWES. I can't even figure out how to take it down now. I hope this review helps others avoid this terrible product and get something better. If you guys want to know, the ballast that is included is from KEYSTONE KTEB-226-1-tp, good luck finding it.Best Deals for Good Earth Lighting G4150-BN-I Taverna Two Light Flush Mount
Obviously, Good Earth has changed this model since all the bad reviews were posted. The new Taverna "G4150-BN-I" uses the self ballasted GU24 system compact fluorescent bulbs they're easy to find and ENERGY STAR compliant. We needed more light over our kitchen table (our old 30 watt light's ballast literally fried) and the Taverna was the highest wattage I could find (46 watts total, using two 23 watt bulbs). This new light is perfectly bright.
Unlike others, the installation instructions for Good Earth lights are elaborate with plenty of drawings. I had the light installed and working in 45 minutes.
Negatively, the base's metal is a bit flimsy. When I was turning the screws to "scrape off the paint for increased grounding" (per instructions), the metal started bending inward way too easily. They should reinforce that area.
The light sockets are supposed to easily snap into the base...but it took me a lot of yelling, a sore thumb and, eventually, a screwdriver to force it in (the tolerance in the machining doesn't need to be that close/tight).
Finally, the included bulbs are shipped in the corners of the light's box with NO PADDING. One of my bulbs was already broken when I opened the box.
Honest reviews on Good Earth Lighting G4150-BN-I Taverna Two Light Flush Mount
We replaced a 4 bulb fluorescent light. It puts out great light and was somewhat easy to install. Looks great in the kitchen. We weren't sure if it would give enough light to our long kitchen. It was great.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Good Earth Lighting G4150-BN-I Taverna Two Light Flush Mount
I've had two of these fixtures up in my kitchen for a few years now, and I like them very much. It's obviously a matter of personal preferencem but I like the amount of light they put out.Out of the four bulbs involved, some have lasted as little as 2 years, others are still the original bulb, after at least 4 years.
But we just had a ballast blow out. Does ANYONE know how to swap out these ballasts? Obviously, I can cut the lines, and solder a new ballast into place, putting heat-shrink tubing over the splice. That just seems /wrong/, though, to have to solder the replacement in. The lamp sockets look like some tool (an awl, ice pick, or small flat-blade screwdriver) will allow me to depress a tiny wedge within the contact area, pull out the old wire, and put in the new one. Has anyone here ever swapped one of these ballasts in this more "elegant" way?
Thanks.
