This is an edited review, in which I drop my rating of this product from five stars to one star. I have never had to do this before.

(2nd update: I don't believe it, but the third (of four) lights failed to turn on tonight. This has now become the most unsatisfactory purchase I have ever made from Amazon. What is going on?)

The lantern is beautiful in the night. A soft, glowing candlelight, swaying in the breeze. I purchased four of these lanterns, two weeks apart, in January of this year. I hung them on shepherd's hooks along one side of the garden. Beautiful. They were my favorite of about 18 solar lights in my garden. In the past, I have had good luck with Westinghouse solar lights. Not anymore.

Two weeks ago the first of the four lamps winked out. It degraded for a few nights, until one night it just did not light. I figured, no problem, just the battery. Three months is a little short for a battery life, but I can handle it. Changed the battery, the light did not go on. Uh-oh. According to my volt meter, the 3.6 v battery was fully charged. According to my ammeter, the solar panel was sending current to the battery. So, the problem is in the light itself. This should never happen with LED lights. A customer should not have to be an electronics technician to get a product to work. I am not one.

So, I figure I just had bad luck. Returning these items is such a pain in the tush. Then, last night, the SECOND of the four lights did not light up. It is just unacceptable, to have a 50% failure rate on expensive, supposedly premium solar lights within three months.

I paid a premium price, and expected to get premium lanterns that actually worked. If I wanted non-working solar lanterns, I could have bought them at Home Depot for a lot less money.

I am going to go through the great annoyance of trying to send two lanterns back. If I get justice, and end up with four working lanterns, I will return and upgrade this review by a few stars, as the lantern is beautiful when it works.

We just received these yesterday. The instructions stated they needed 8 12 hours in direct sunlight for the initial charge. It was around 4 in the afternoon on a cloudy day, but I set them out anyway to see what would happen. We had plans in the evening, but when we returned around 8:30, just as the sun was beginning to set, these lights were burning brightly. I wasn't expecting a large amount of light from the solar charge, but I was pleasantly surprised. The aren't as bright as a normal light powered by electricity or normal battery, obviously, but they put out a very nice glow. The flickering candle effect was very pretty as well. At midnight, they were still burning brightly. I couldn't be happier. We will have to see how they hold up, but so far, I'm a fan.

This lantern looks great. If your looking for something that is of good quality than this is the lantern for you. I bought 4 lanterns and friends and family come to my backyard and they all seem to agree that these lanterns have a great look. What's also nice about them is that when they do go on the light begins to flicker. That's a real nice feature. The only negative for me is that I would have love them to be a bit brighter. But I can live with that

After looking and looking for outdoor solar patio lighting I stumbled upon these and purchased 4 lanterns. I couldn't be more thrilled!

The lanterns are a bronzy-brown color with a cream candle that flickers a dull white light all night long. They're perfect for outdoor ambiance although if you're looking for more than mood lighting these would not be a good choice.

Assembly was a snap (screw in the top hook), and after leaving the lights in the sun for 8 hours the batteries were charged and ready for use. I was amazed how lovely they look and how they last all night long. The best part is that when we have power outages I'll be able to bring all 4 lanterns indoors and have light that's better than an actual candle.

This was another excellent purchase from Amazon!

Just received these lanterns and one does not light up, the other I am not able to screw the hanging loop into the top the whole way. I should have listened to the other reviewers that commented on their purchase of the same lanterns, as my experience is the same! Will definitely be returning them. Don't know about anyone else, but when I open a new product, I expect it to assemble according to the directions and work the way it should.
